Ammo for competition with your Glock
I was wondering everyones thoughts on the subject. Glock says only factory should be used. But due to competition ammo quantity needs and the limited availability of factory ammo, do you still search for factory ammo or do you just go with reloads?
Also, If reloading is you primary source of ammo, do you go so far as to swap to an after market barrel so non jacketed/plated bullets can be used to save money, or do you just keep with the factory barrel and reload jacketed/plated bullets?"Get yourself a Glock and lose that nickel plated sissy pistol." my compitition and practice ammo consist of whatever i can find thats cheapest at the time im looking. I dont worry about swapping barrels.

Well do you shoot cast lead bullets through your factory barrel? Do you have a lot of problems with leading?

I dont personally unless i pick some up from a friend, but when i actually get around to reloading i will. I have a good friend that is a trainer and works in the industry that almost exclusively shoots lead.
I just talked to him on the phone and he said the lead will built up pretty quick. He cleans the barrel about every 500 rounds with Shooters Choice Lead Remover and a stiff nylon brush. he said if you do that you wont have any problems at all

OH OK, thats a good bit of info to know. I was thinking of maybe shooting a match every once in a while with cast lead and I had figured if I just gave it a good cleaning it would be fine, Thanks for the info.

If I were to start shooting lead I'd get a Lone Wolf barrel for it...mostly because I'm lazy and don't like cleaning, especially lead deposits.
From what I hear, however, you'll want to have the LW chamber reamed out as they're 'match' barrels and may not reliably chamber some ammo.

For competition I use only jacketed re-loads. I have my own recipe that I have worked out based on re-coil and performance. I think most that shoot the matches regularly do. Anything to get just a little bit of a edge. Shave off fractions of a second with each shot and so on. It all adds up in the matches.

Ya, I know what you mean. I gotta get my dies set back to .40 dimensions since I dont have to worry about 10mm any more. Do you usually reload a lighter or medium power load for competition? Originally Posted by sfguard

I use my "17 Gen-4" for IDPA. I tried some Monarch 9mm (House label from Academy) made in Serbia by Barnaul. They make the Brown Bear, Silver Bear and Golden Bear steel case ammo in Russia. The Monarch is brass, reloadable, boxer primed and shoots as well as the CCI Blazer which is what I've been shooting. Academy gets 11.99/50rds vs. 12.99/50rds for the CCI Blazer Aluminum cased. The 10 bucks a case adds up after a while.
