So I have collected around 350 empty shells from shooting my g22. Now I dont reload, nor will I claim to know how or know anything about it. So this maybe a dumb question, please forgive me. My uncle has about 4 dillon presses lined up. with 9mm, .40, and .45ACP, and .45 long colt. He offered to load them for me as long as I came by to help and learn how its done. Apparently the dillons are all automatic so I imagine this to be easy.
Anyway, is it possible to get a 200 grain bullet for the .40?
And if, so is it a good idea?
Does it hit harder?
It must be a slower moving bullet with less room for powder in there right?

It is possible to get a 200 grain, bullet. To answer your question does it hit harder, depends on the load recipe. The bullet weight doesn't necessarily effect the load. There is enough excess space in the casing for powder that the bullet size isn't an issue. A good reloading manual will spell out the load data for that round. In theory a heavier bullet does carry more energy if the fps is sufficient. To figure FPE, foot pounds of energy the math is: fps x fps x bullet grain weight / a constant number representing gravity of 450240. A load that maintains the same fps with a heavier bullet will hit harder.
Don't retreat! Reload!!!
Thanks tacworld! This stuff seems pretty in depth. Glad im not flying blind on this.

Been loading .40 on my Dillon for quite a while. Yep 200 grain is possible but not the most effective round for the .40. I have found that loading 155 or 165 grain JHP rounds gives the .40 the biggest PUNCH for the buck. Good Luck and remember the choice of powder plays a huge part in the effectiveness of the round.

I agree as well. There is something special about the 165 grain JHP/.40 combo. A friend of mine did some informal ballistics testing last week and the 165 grain JHP was superior to the other weights tested. (It was so good that he plans to switch to the .40 as soon as he can afford it.)
I agree with OSS. 155-165 grain bullet works well in the .40 S&W
I'm currently using 155 grain Hornady XTP JHP bullets and 9.6 grains Accurate #7 powder in my USP40.
1140 fps @ muzzle
Double tap ammo loads a 200gr FMJ-FP they claim 1100 fps at the muzzle from 4 1/2" barrel I am not sure but this may be achieved with slower burning powder. That's pretty fast for a 40 s&w 200gr.
