Here is a very interesting article on brass vs Steel casing ammo. This test was conducted on ARs where in many ways this seems to be more of an issue, but many of the findings could very well extend to other firearms where the case material option is available (like 9mm pistol ammo). Some myths were debunked, while others were confirmed.
Oh.... The good ol' days when we had a choice on ammo.... The nostalgia of it kinda brings a tear to the eye....
In a practical sense, it seems the test supports that shooting steel is acceptable in an AR platform rifle. For me, since I reload, I would only use brass, but it's good to know that the ammo manufacturers aren't trying to destroy our guns because copper is expensive.
Yea, sturmgvere (spelling?, I didn't bother to check) "The Military Arms Channel" on Youtube did a video on the same subject. He shoots steel case exclusively in most of his firearms including ARs and Glocks. He mentions that it hasn't given him any issues. I reload so I am a brass guy too.
Very interesting on using only steel casing in Glocks. I haven't tried this myself, but Glock did recommend against aluminum and steel casings in the Armorers course stating these harder materials can destroy your Glock's extractor. They were pretty open to rough treatment in most conversations, so I'm willing to trust them on this one.
