    4Dark,
The class is given by certified instructors for minnesota permit to carry. After completing the class successfully, the class is considered good for a year in order to apply for a permit. The permit is good for 5 years in Minnesota. I too wish there was a National standard and permit.

Mtstream, when I pocket carry like that, it is not chambered. I am still looking for a good holster.

You can actually apply for renewal up to 90 days prior to your permit expiration.

It'd be nice if there was better reciprocity but personally I don't want the feds involved with permit to carry in any way, perfectly fine with that being left up to the states.

Well, will f you drive in say Ohio or are married in Iowa, what involve, entbdo the Feds have to insure you can drive or be married in say Utah, even though you are not from there. Why should LTCs be different.

Not trying to be snarky but how would you suggest the feds get a state like CA or IL to agree to reciprocity for states like VT with constitutional carry? They won't. Would you want the feds to force those constitutional carry states to now require their residents to get a permit?

No. What you'll end up with is some kind of a national carry permit regulated by the feds. If we're lucky it'd be a permit separate from or in addition to your state permit which you could apply for if you wanted. But what if you didn't want to apply for it, would you lose all reciprocity to other states? Because how long do you think states would maintain a separate state to state reciprocity once the feds set a national "standard"? What would that standard be based on, CA requirements? How long before the feds start strong-arming the states to follow fed standards for issuing their state permits like they've done with Real ID? The Fed standardization of state issued DL/ID's which also has seriously legitimate privacy concerns due to the tracking of your information anytime your DL is scanned (and of course the absolute incompetency of the feds running anything).

Yeah, no thanks. You want better reciprocity, lobby your local legislators to honor permits from other states. It may not be pretty but I'm fine with the states maintaining their own requirements for issuing permits and reciprocity. I don't want the feds to have any other avenue for backdoor infringement of my 2A rights.

Just my 2 pennies worth and that might be all it's worth.

Honest question....do the Feds regulate how a wedding or what needs to happened for drivers licences?

Fine, then have a separate federal license and those of us in shitty states can obtain that. There is no way lobbying in my state is going to change it unless the SCOTUS starts re-affirming 2A and perhaps that will be done. I am Ok with that route as well.

Well, as far as DL, there originally was no Fed involvement. the DL reciprocity was setup by the States themselves, like your carry permit reciprocity is today, but DL reciprocity is provided through a Drivers License Compact which is manged by a thrid party non-gov't non-profit volunteer org (the AAMVA). However, the Feds are now trying to strong-arm all States to standardize their DLs to support Real ID. Personally i see big privacy issues with RealID, just one of which is a requirement that the new RealID DLs will include your SSN in the data that can be scanned from the card.

the feds don't regulate weddings either, however since a marriage is essentially a legal contract authorized by the State (court) it falls under the "Full Faith and Credit Clause" of the US Constitution which basically says that a State must respect the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of other states.

I'm kind of winging that so i might be a little off, but that should be the gist of it.

I could see something similar to the Driver License Compact possibly working for carry reciprocity as long as it remained outside of Fed jurisdiction. However i don't think i want my state's carry law influenced by requirements from a-hole states like CA or IL.
