Kind of like a pilots license
In Ohio they are only good for 3 years but there's no requalifying to renew that I know of. They've even dropped the legalities section of the class which is beyond silly IMO. Too many newbies getting a license to carry without really knowing the responsibility they are taking on.
It's no more than 8 hours telling you how not to shoot yourself with pistol or revolver then can you get 7 out of 10 in an 8" circle from 10 feet. Take a written test, which you should score 100% on or fail IMO, and here's your certificate.\

On the other hand to track all of this makes a database of who has guns and can use them for the government.
Would people be agreeable to the NRA or GOA to keep and administer such a database?

For me, a pilots license is a privilege where a gun is a Right. I live in a state where everything is regulated. Allowing someone to dictate anything, including what constitutes training is a slippery slope. I live in a state where Glocks are illegal to buy from a dealer. Where black guns made by "X" are legal, the same gun in brown is unsafe, therefore illegal.

Additionally, Maybe I missed it but in places where they suddenly expanded CCW to no permit needed, was there a sudden influx of AD/ND?

Also, there are some serously stupid instructors out there as well. I have seen an NRA instructor point a gun at people in class. Before you light me up, I am an NRA instructor and I am not saying all instructors are dumb....but some are.

Sad to say but Youtube supports this far too many times.

I had an discussionh on this very topic today. I think they should give gun safety in grade school, just lioke drivers ed. Not everyone intends to drive but you will need to know the rules of the road. Same as a gun, tyeach them when they are young that in the wrong hands they could be a lot of trouble.

    Great pot. -DG
