    [IDPA Match] G19 vs G17 or G34

    Hello guys,
lacking two match at the end of the championship F.I.I.D.S. (Equivalent Italian IDPA).
Throughout this year I always played with my faithful G19C IIIGen.
I wanted to ask; if next year I change my 19 with a 17 or 34, may be of some use?
Line sight more distant or more grip, best handle, ecc?
P.S. Do not tell me more shots because the magazines, in Italy, are at most 15 rounds.
Thanks for looking and have a great day.

    Hi Raskebir--

Are the G19 and the G34 in the same category? Also, what are the longest distances you might shoot?
I tried to find the FIIDS website but I didn't have any luck.
    Question your assumptions

Thank You for the quick response,
Yes, all Glock pistol are in the same division, GL.
The typical distance are between seven and twentyfive meters.
You can see FIIDS web site at:

The advantage of the longer sight radius is - if you make the same error in your sight picture with the 19 as the 34, the result when the bullet hits the target is less with the 34.

It's not a huge difference. But some shooters will choose to go with a larger notch in the rear sight to help with speed (or eyes getting old), the longer sight radius can help compensate for the extra wiggle room.

I find that I handle the 17 better than the 34 the 34 has more weight forward - that could be overcome with practice but I really like shooting the 17.

Even though I don't have large hands, I find the full length grip of the 17/34 fits my hand better. The "swell" in the grip is better located for me. I have much better control with them over the 19.

If you look at the top of the leader boards for your matches, what models are they shooting?

I will find someone willing to lend to one day a 17 and 34.

Generally speaking the largest frame and heaviest gun is what works best for competition. That's why most of the guys are running the G17/G34 platforms. The G34 is .8 ounces heavier than a G17, but I like the cycle speed of the G17 better, at least with 124 grain bullets. And for the typical IDPA paper target distances, 95% at 3-12 yards, no need for a G34. It's not like you have a 6" diameter plate at 40 yards, like in IPSC/USPSA.

    Yes, I know
The G19 is not a ease when you have a lot of little plate at 40/42 yards.
It's hop like a little rabbit in my hand. It's my fault that, I grip with excessive delicately.
Now I tried one 17 and one 34, the 17 i think to be better for me.
I think that on 2017 I run with a G17 in our IDPA match
    Thanks to everyone

Raskebir, I just noticed you said you were running a G19C. That's not legal in IDPA. Plus all magazines are limited to 10 rounds in capacity, whether it's a 10 round magazine or a 17 round loaded to 10. Is this F.I.I.D.S. your'e talking about a sanctioned match?

Wow, will not easy clarify all this. . . . . in english.
Ok, FIIDS it's the Italian IDPA. (Federazione Italiana International Defensive Shooting - FIIDS.IT)
Obviously there are some little difference between the two rules.
We have not a limitation on number of shot when we are in field. But, if you use your gun into a one PCC (Pistol Carbine Conversion) like RONI, in that case you must use only 10 rounds in your magazines.
Last year the rules permit to use a compensed handgun like a G19C but not permit compensator applied on barrel.
The new rules for 2017 are not on internet site yet.
I hope I have explained it well.
