Glock 23 40-9 conversion barrel (ED Carry with conversion barrel)

There is a lot of static about 40-9 conversion barrels in a Glock 23. Half say they would trust for ED self-defense. Seems the other half as well as manufactures say not to use for this purpose, just for practice.

Does anyone have a real reason to not trust these for ED self-defense? I was brought up to train with what you carry thus buying a conversion barrel just to use for "training/practice" seems a waste of money to me.
My reason for the conversion is to be able to carry 9mm or 40cal on a tight budget.

    Thanks in advance
    John

Is your question about the reliability of conversion barrels? Or is it the "train how you carry" principle?
    I'm seeing only a $3-$4 difference in 50rd boxes of 9mm vs 40S&W.

The reliability of a conversion barrel. I would change out the extractor, trigger housing and the spring loaded bearing so I don't get spent cases in my face. Claims are that doing a barrel swap in and of it self should be sufficient.
I guess I don't understand why a people would trust (feel safe) firing with a conversion barrel for practice but not trust it for self-defense. People go out of their way to say "don't rely on them for self-defense" as if it was a cardinal sin. No different than ordering a replacement part for your pistol (ghost trigger; stainless steel recoil spring and so on), they are all foreign from OEM parts.
What's to say an OEM for caliber barrel rig won't have issues when you have to handle a threat?

Have plenty of 40cal and 9mm fmj, HST and Gold Dot so not about price difference. It is about having the convince of choice. I enjoy the 40cal round but some days my auto accident nerve damages act up thus reducing hand strength.

    Thanks brother.

I have a 9mm barrel for my gen 3 g23. In shooting at the range it gets more than normal failure to feeds or fire. I also replace the extractor, spring loaded bearing, and trigger housing/ejector. I still get higher than normal failures.

I wouldn't trust it for normal carry. My opinion is if you want a g19, get a g19. Just my $.02.
