Picture showing clearly - the different finish on two fine pistols!

I suspect this subject has been discussed many times before...
With that said - Just sharing this comparison picture just taken for those who may find it interesting.
Notably different color of both barrel and slide, and texture..
    Cheers!

What are the differences in the pistols like, age and place of manufacture?

Yep. My latest Glock is a Gen 4 G19C (USA stamped). It has the same finish as your G17C. And I have others that have the same finish as your top one.

Without looking, I think the bulk of my Glocks are like your top one, but, don't really remember how many have which finish.

I do know the oldest one's have a different "fry-pan" finish. So, I think Glock has changed finishes maybe 3 times over the 30 years in the US???

Add: my G19C g4 is my only USA stamped Glock but, I think finishes are the same regardless which plant their made (US or Austria).....

I have a couple with the top finish. My Gen3 G17 and Gen 3 G21SF. That finish is the best in my opinion, shows little to no holster wear. The others I have have the dull finish and show every little scuff.

Well my 2013 made G17C (bottom in pic) has a couple marks on the finish....while the 2008 made G20 (top in pic) does not show a mark on it anywhere....both have seen about the same use while the G20 is obviously 5 years older and has seen far more handling about......so perhaps the textured finish is indeed the more durable of the two...I personally prefer the darker color of the barrel and textured finish...but that it just my humble opinion...!

Same observations here...My 1994 Gen2 G17 (Austrian) had the lighter, textured finish and my 2015 Gen4 G17C (USA) has the darker, smoother finish. I owned the Gen2 for 21yrs and the finish was far more durable than the Gen4; which I've only had for 10mths. Aesthetically, I prefer the smoother texture & darker finish but they both fit my hand like gloves and make shooting a dream
