    Interesting serial number observation

Last Sunday the youngest boy picked up a new G19 and it has me scratching my head. It's a Gen 3 with a serial number prefix that's later than my Gen 4.

I believe his was NOS because he went to a big box store that only carries new product and mine was also bought new but neither came with a fired case envelope so I can't date them. I haven't been able to find either of our prefixes on the serial number threads I've run across so I might give Glock a call to see what they can tell me.

The Gen 3 has a BECB prefix and the Gen 4 is BBLB.

    Any thoughts?

Welp, I just bought this one yesterday, and it goes BDLL***

Looking forward to shooting it Monday morning. I just ordered a spare OEM recoil spring for it too. Those Gen 3 ones are getting a little scarce.

Wow, I thought they were discontinued for the Gen 4. I had no idea they were still in production.

I have even more to learn than I thought...

California has some arcane requirements to be listed on their "Roster of Handguns Approved for Resale" list. According to the list
No Generation 4 Glock handguns have been approved as of: Friday, May 19, 2017
No Glock handguns made in the USA have been approved as of: Friday, May 19, 2017
For this reason and I'm sure others, Glock keeps making Gen3 pistols.

Another reason Gen 3s are still produced is that a bunch of us Glickenheimers prefer Gen 3 to Gen 4.

Ah, now I see where it is beneficial to them to keep the Gen 3 in production. I didn't realize that would cut off the CA market.

On a side note, do they only include fired casing envelopes for states that require them?

That appears to be the case. I know they are no longer in every case. I assume there are still some states that require them and they are included but I dont know that for a fact.
