    Problem with glock 27

I took my new (used) Glock 27 to the range today. I would chamber a loaded mag, pull the slide back and chamber a round. With the slide locked back , I could insert a loaded mag and release the slide and it would chamber the 1st round every time. After firing a round. the weapon would fail to pick up the next round to chamber it. I tried four different mags and two different brands of ammo. It doesn't seem to be picking up the back of the next round to chamber it. After the first round is fired the slide seems to be hanging up on the top of the next round instead of it being picked up and moved forward into battery. The gun has had some after market parts installed but I know little of it's history. Any ideas on what is going on?

Hey mdtnman - welcome to the site!

I know you said you tried 4 mags.. were they all used?
Are you able to ask the previous owner if they had issues?
Do the mags have mag extenders on them?
Does it seem to not chamber the 2nd round every time?
Is it only the 2nd round when it's full, or does it happen on the 2nd again if you only put 5 in to begin with?

    Other questions...
Is this your first glock? did you come from other manufacturer type guns?

Meanwhile, I would try a fresh mag from your local shop and report back... maybe the mags are old and could use new springs...

All good questions Rob. Also, what kind of after market parts are on the weapon? Do you keep a firm grip on the weapon when firing? If you hold a weapon too loosely "limp wrist" it may be preventing the slide from properly cycling. If the weapon loads the first round correctly from "open slide" it sounds like the slide is catching the cartridge fine. Also, sometimes aftermarket recoil springs don't function as well as the oem parts. You may want to try buying a fresh stock recoil spring to see if the spring is worn. (It is a new/ used weapon rt?) And (like Rob said) the problem may lie in the mags. The springs might be tired if they are a little older or were kept loaded with ammo for a long period of time. Are they all glock factory mags? A lot really depends on the age of the weapon. Do you know its manufacture date? If you call glock cust svc and give them the ser # they can tell you the month your weapon was built.

    Springs

Sounds like the mag springs to me. Common problem.

The other option is to simply load one short of full in the mags.

This has worked for me in the past.

Could be the mag. most FTF issues are but I would also wonder if the guide spring has been tested.

True, it could be a mag too. Best to just try a new mag or get a mag rebuild kit.
