    home defense pistol

I'm going to retire my 9mm P85 Ruger from home defense to sitting in my cabinet. I think about going for a Glock 45 ACP I don't want to buy GAP glocks because of the round prices. I'm open to other calibers like 40cal or 357 I don't really know what to get I all ready have a Glock 26 so I want something a little bigger caliber.
    Thank you
    Jeff

Jeff, I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations on here. I would suggest you go to your local gun shop and handle several to see how they feel.
Then go to a range and rent what ever feels right, put some rounds through it and then decide. Good luck!

See if anyone lives near you here that would be willing to meet for a range day. You buy the ammo. You will get a long list of options when you say "what should I get" or "what's the best...". If I was buying a home defense weapon today, I'd buy another shotgun. A shotgun made for self defense not hunting if I had the choice, although a hunting shotgun works "almost" as good. (Obvious caveats)

Handguns, 9mm is my choice for personal defense although I do like the 45 ACP, 45 GAP as well.

On your comment that 45 GAP is more expensive than 45 ACP, I'll say you should do a little research on that before you make that decision. Here is but one place I looked within about 10 seconds for prices...
    GAP

    ACP

I will say i was surprised at the low volume of GAP today. I checked here last week and there were quite a few more options and higher quantities. I'm sure they'll be stocked back up soon since so few people believe in the round.

I live just east of Raleigh. I have a Glock 21 with a tactical light that I use as a backup to my Mossberg Persuader. I also have a G19 Gen 4, G22, G30. If you want to meet up sometime and shoot them we can arrange something. I could take you out on my lane in the woods sometime if you can make it up to Willow Spring, NC. That's where my land is.

try and buy isnt really something I would do. *(this is just me) But A glocks a glocks a glock, you know? If you have handled a G21 then you handled a glock20. Or if you have handled a 23 than you have handled a 32. I have a 32 in .357 sig and its pretty snappy stuff. Ammo is outragous for home defense though. cost me 70$ for Cor-bon saftey slugs. And that was for 40 of them. The gun snaps alot like a .40 cal, but not as powerful as .40. I would get a Glock17 if it was striclty for home defense. Thats just me. 9mm you wouldnt really have to worry to much about dry wall penatration into other rooms(with the right ammo). Thats just my 2 cents.

Not trying to single you out here, but really??? You dont test drive a car before you buy it? I am fortunate enough that my local range has a huge selection of rental guns I got to try before I made a decision. Honestly i tried a 17 and its a huge difference in how it fits in my hand from a 19. The OP really needs to see what handles best for them... On that note..

I would second laws suggestion of getting a shotgun. A lot more versatile in the home defense environment and can be had for cheaper than a new handgun. Remington 870 tactical is a popular model as well as mossberg 500. Stay away from pistol grips if you go this route.
This is my Glock. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.
