But if your running the pistol the way you should be ie. proper fundamentals, proper recoil management ect. it doesnt matter what pistol you pick up (caliber, size, ported or not) you should be able to run it to the best of your abilities regardless.

    example:

If your a new shooter and I instruct you on a G17 and only that until your extremely proficient. Your running hard, good fundamentals good strong grip, working with what your body does naturally to mitigate recoil ect.

Then I give you a g22 and tell you to do exactly as you have been. You are going to run that pistol to the best of your abilities. now your speed and follow up shots may be a touch slower due to the more recoil, but your still going to run that gun as well as YOU personally can.

So as long as your not using the ported barrel as a crutch to slack on the important things it shouldnt have any effect switching to no ported barrels

Great point Keith. Too many people buy these things to improve their shooting instead of buying ammo and focusing on proper fundamentals. So you've got a pimped out match elite super duper G17. What happens when the SHTF and you only have a plain jane G19. Are you screwed because you don't have the match grade barrel, trigger kit, titanium guide rod, lighter sprints, etc? I sure hope not!

No. The "ported" barrels are advertised like they work like a compensator and they don't. Buy a threaded barrel and get a good compensator, lower your recoil spring weight and you are good to go.

I think you have to decide what your shooting goals are... Some of us use competitive shooting to increase our awareness and shooting capabilities with relative stock Glocks... Something we would be likely to use as a carry weapon... It doesn't make sense for us to start using ported barrels, compensators, and red dot sights since we wouldn't be carrying guns with these options...

If you are totally into competition, and the rules permit it, building a pimped out match elite super duper G17 is the plan... I'm not sure what lighter sprints are though...

Having said that... build what you want...
