    Compensated g19 vs Standard G19

I have to opportunity to pick up a g19c from my local gun shop and I like the idea but I've head people say that the compensated Glocks are not the best idea for CC. I understand that, which is why I am wondering if I get the 19c and install a regular, non ported g19 barrel for when I CC, would I have any technical problems or would it operate as normal?

I'd rather buy the C model and have the ported slide and barrel so all I'd have to change out is a barrel if I want to CC.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    I owned a 19c and a 19. I had no problems carrying the 19c. Internet rumors.

I've head that the flash from the compensator behind the front sight can be disorienting in the darkness, and it can be painful if you have to fire holding in close. Both make sense to me. Carrying the 19c isn't completely out of the question, but I just want to know if putting a non ported barrel in a C model will be a problem

Hey ShotgunMike, welcome to the forum.

You can safely use a non-ported barrel on the C models, no problems at all. The slide is a little lighter due to the ports but it should not cause any cycling problems if the 19C is currently working properly.
The C models have their minuses (like you have mentioned), but they also have advantages, like getting back on target quicker, which by the way is an advantage for a small calliber like 9mm as you will likely need multiple shots in a defense situation. It is also good when introducing new shooters to the sport, specially smaller stature folks, and like your question covers you can have a standard G19 just by switching the barrel.

Regarding the muzzle flash you can try different ammo and see which one produces the least amount of flash if that is a concern. Shooting from the hip could be a problem.

My point is the 19C is a good weapon and there are a lot of myths floating around against it, some folks think it is not macho to have a compensated weapon, 9mm doesn't kick enough to justify a compensator, etc. Bottom line if you like it go for it, the worst that can happen is you will drop a regular barrel and have a standard G19.

Well, now that that question is answered, I guess I'll ask what the best thing to do as far as acquiring a barrel is. Should I go with a Standard Glock factory barrel? Or should I go with an aftermarket one like storm lake? If the factory barrel is best, wheres a good place to buy one?

Well it depends on what you want it for. The cheapest are Storm Lake and Lone Wolf, nothing wrong with them. OEM Glock will be more expensive, and may be a little more reliable as they usually have higher tolerances in terms of case fitting for the chamber. For carry I think OEM is the best choice. KKM and Barsto is what you see the most in competitions, but not necessarily the best choice for carry and are the most expensive.

Of the aftermarket barrels I have onwed Storm Lake and KKM.

also if you ever plan on shooting reloads you would want an after market barrel as glock barrels don't like the lead reloads from what i have read on this site.
This is my Glock. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.

Chances are I will never reload 9mm. And I'll mainly use it for CC.

Personally I would never CC a compensated firearm for the fact that 1.) Most crimes happen at night so the chances of me having to ever use my weapon would be in low light conditions and 2.) like you already mentioned, shooting from the hip or close to your body. I don't want that flash catching me. But like already was stated go with whatever feels comfortable to you. I would only use a compensated firearm at the range, but that's just me.
