Anyone who really knows me can recite all the reasons why the Glock 38 is my favorite Glock. However, I funny thing happened to me at the range the other day. I just got done shooting my Glock 19. It is a newer model, made Nov 2010. (It has the 336 ejector and works perfectly....even the ones that seem to have erratic ejection still fire every time you pull the trigger) After shooting it my friend picked it up and said,"Wow, this has to be the perfect 9mm. I have to go and get one." He asked me if I had any problems and I invited him to look at my shooting logs and as we were going over them I noticed that in a year, I put 8743 rounds through it without a single problem. I also realized that I was guilty of overlooking how great of a handgun the 19 really is. For far to long, I have down played its excellence because of its caliber. It is the perfect size frame, always dependable, every new shooter that I introduce to handguns has no problem shooting it, the price is relatively cheap.....I could go on and on.
As I was driving home I thought back about how many times I went shooting over the last year and realized of all the handguns I own, the Glock 19 was the only one I brought with me to the range. If you don't own one, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the finest modern 9mm on the planet.
Thinking about it very seriously after shooting one for the first time yesterday. Just have a question about should it be a Gen3 or Gen 4? Any input from anyone on this????
I think the issues with the Gen 4's have been resolved so you really can't go wrong with either. However, if I were to buy another Glock 19 I would go with the gen 3 because of the price. In my area they are cheaper than the gen 4's. I think they are trying to move inventory to get more 4's in.
I forgot to add this; I have a gen 4. I ended up putting the medium back strap on it which brings the grip back up to where the gen 3 is. I have come to find out that I prefer the way the gen 3 feels.
Current production gen3s also seem to erratically eject. With the gen4s, Glock seems ahead of the curve with correcting the issue. Glock may have started installing the "new" ejector in the new gen3s by now, but as of recently, the new ejector was only being installed in the gen4s.
Mine, a new gen4, has the new ejector, and while it is "better", I didn't properly lube the pistol before I fired it. I'll take it out this weekend and I bet it'll be perfect.

Glad to hear some more love for the G19.
I hear ya! However I do not believe that so many of these 3rd and 4th generation Glock pistols are actually suffering from, 'ejector issues'. Sure the ejector figures in the equation; BUT, so does the extractor. My best guess is that different extractors or ejectors are only symptoms of the whole (real) problem with erratic ejection. The real culprit seems to be that the extractor cut in many current production Glock slides is simply too far forward. Consequently, the extractor claw is not being held in close engagement with the cartridge rim and, thereby, causes a high percentage of, 'flying cartridge cases' to be pulled erratically out of the pistol.
I know this conclusion is going to be controversial; but, if you compare one Glock that extracts and ejects just fine with another one that does not, I think you'll see the excess claw space and loose rim engagement that I'm talking about. Until the factory, 'fesses up' and repairs: the slide cuts, extractors, and ejectors I fully expect erratic brass ejection problems to continue. (These problems might mitigate with partial repair; but, I really don't think they're going to altogether disappear - OK!
By the way, I love my own, 'PED' prefix 3rd generation Model G-19!
