Ok, before I even add to that question, I know many of you on here have multiple guns and multiple Glocks as well. But at some point, you had your first purchase or maybe you can answer this for each of the models you own.
What was the reason for the choice you made? Why did you choose the 9mm over the 40 cal or the 45 over both of these? How do you use these differently? Is one more for fun and one more for protection? While recoil could be different between each model, is the shooting the same virtually with a similar set of sights that come stock on the weapon? It's always interesting to know why people pick what they do. Cars, guns, beer, everyone has a personal preference be it color, handling or flavor.
For me, I'm headed down the 9mm route. I don't know specifically the difference between a 9mm, a 40 or 45, but the 9mm is what I shot 2 decades ago and I probably need to branch out and try a few new things. I don't want to get my dad's Oldsmobile, if you know what I mean. So I'm doing lots of research and trying to be hands on during the choosing process. As for a car, the Corvette hands down and a Blue Moon, but those two are off topic. Ha ha.
Thanks!

I chose Glock 17 to be my first handgun because it's used by every governmental and LE agencies in Finland. Our Defence Forces, in which i serve accepted Glock 17 to be our new service pistol. So it was actually very easy for me to make a decision.
I started with a gen4 G17. I had always been a rifle and shotgun guy, and bought the G17 based on reputation, fit and finish and "cool" factor.... I just liked it.
I then traded the G17 for a G17L and I bought a gen4 G19 at the same time. I find the G19 to be just about the perfect semi auto pistol.... Small enough to carry, large enough to grip comfortably and shoot well with more than adequate capacity. My G17L is just a joy to shoot at the range, although I must admit I shoot the G19 much more than the long slide.... I must rectify that!
9mm is satisfactory for me in regards to SD, hell I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one! I've got a 1911 in .45ACP, a .357 revolver, a .38 revolver and a .22 revolver as well. Love 'me all. But I would grab my G19 if I heard a"bump in the night".

An estate sale!!! Great price and I love the gun G20
I bought a used G21 and liked it so much I then bought a G22, then a G19 Gen 4. Later on I eventualy switched from carrying my G21 and bought a G30.
Don't retreat! Reload!!!
As I mentioned in a post before, I was not originally a Glock guy. I always owned S&W and Sigs. I never bought into the hype of Glock and when it became a common name in the "gangster" or rap culture, I was completely turned off.
But with that said, my buddy purchased a Glock 30 about 7 years ago and I got a chance to shoot it. I will say I was surprisingly impressed. About 2 years ago, I was in search of a reasonable .45 auto. Browsing my local gun store, a like new G30 showed up in the used guns section and I picked it up for a steal! I fell immediately in love with it. Then early last year, I fell into a Late Gen 3 G19 in a trade which was a no brainer for me. I already had a 9mm but why not pick up a Glock?
I can now say I'm a Glock enthusiast. I plan on using the G30 as my carry gun. I also have the G19, a Sig P250 Tactical in 9mm, a Tuarus Judge and a S&W .357 mag.

Due to availability and price, I've always stuck with the tried and true military calibers. For rifles it's .30-06, .308, 7.62 x 39, and .223. Same for handguns: .45, 9mm. I then went with the .40 as a "compromise round" between the .45 and 9mm.
All of my pistols were full sized. I was shopping around for a new CCW, since I've lost some weight the full sized gun is getting harder to conceal. I was about to purchase a Ruger SR9C, then happened to stumble upon a website that compared the Ruger to the Glock 26. When I saw they were almost exactly the same size, and the lack of the extra manual external safety on the Glock - add in the 25 years of proven reliability, and I made the call to get the Glock 26.
I was a Smith&Wesson guy for most of my adult life. Carried the Smith .38 and then the .45ACP (4516-2).
Carried the 9mm Model 39-2 (I think I'm showing my age now) for a long time too.
I was NOT a Glock fan by any means. In fact I called them "ugly" guns and not in the same league as my Smiths. All that and I was just too stubborn to change.
Once I went back to being a ".45 snob" and shunned any other caliber for daily carry, I was thinking my 30 year old Smith "might" need to be switched out in the near future.
Anyway, I'm at the local gun shop and just checking out various .45's and not exactly looking for a Glock when they show me a Glock 30.
Wow! Love at first sight. It fit me like a glove, carried more rounds, and wasn't ugly!! (At least to me).
The G30 is now my daily carry (both open and CC) and I have seen the light.
The gun has performed flawlessly, is very accurate, cleans easily and is a joy to shoot.
I am glad I bought it right on the spot.
It was time to retire the 4516 anyway and I think I saved a pound or two of carry gun!!

i've shot and carryed 45autos[never was a 9mm fan] for the last 34 years so when i got my 1st glock it was a glock 21 then i wanted something smaller so i traded it for a g36 nice gun but every ejected shell casing hit me in the middle of my forehead and it shot very low so i traded it for a g30 and now i'm in love compact very easy to carry concled more accurate than the g21 i had or most of the 1911s i've owned the g30 will be my companion for the rest of my days the reason i changed form carrying a 1911 to a glock was the last time i got stoped the young washingiton state patrol officer was a little freaked out when i handed him a cocked and locked 1911 [i told him that i was liesenced to carry and had a pistol on me and he asked to see it]so after that i carryed my 38 stubby till i got the glock
I didn't know beans about auto pistols other than having a little .25 Beretta years ago. I'd always shot revolvers when I did shoot. When the concealed carry issue really started to concern me I bought a .380 Diamondback because I liked the size. Got a CCL for me and the wife. That was a big mistake which I won't get deeply into in this post. The Diamondback, not the CCL. After that fiasco I gave that one back to my very cordial gun dealer and swapped it for a .380 Ruger LCP which was an amazing improvement and the one I carry now. Most of the time, anyway. Something in the back of my mind kept surfacing that I had always wanted to own a .45ACP. I never even looked at anything other than Glock. Bought a G21 and never looked back. Remarkable pistol even in the hands of an amateur such as myself. Why did I choose Glock when the buddies I retired with told me I needed a nice 1911? In my mind there had to be some reason that the far greater percentage of LEOs are carrying Glocks as their service weapon. Then I told myself that it was just too big to be my carry gun which prompted me to get a G36. Ditto on the satisfaction. Now, my last purchase (Gen4 G19) was simply to comply with the LAW. He said you should always obey the law and I did. Satisfied again except for a few of the extractor problems. They're amazing pistols. I'd love to own one of each. I really want the G36 to end up as my carry gun and I do carry it some but I've yet to come up with something comfortable for me. Tried a IWB Galco and not very satisfied with that so I'll keep experimenting. I love the little LCP but I just have the feeling that if things turned sour the G36 would speak with such greater authority. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Happy Glocking.
