Glock 23 gen 4 review and comparison to gen 3 23

Hello everyone, finished my final exams and have a little time. I wanted to put my new 23 gen 4 through its paces and do a comparison to my Gen 3 23. The first thing I noticed is my newest gen 4 is incredibly smooth and has the best trigger on any of my Glock handguns. It has the newest "dot" connector and let me tell you, it works. I know recoil is very subjective however, there was a noticeable difference when shooting the gen 3 23 and gen 4 23 back to back. We had a gen 3 19 there as well and recoil was comparable to the 19 loaded with +p ammo. This was also observed by the person with me as well as two other people who where watching and curious....we let them compare the as well. Bottom line, the Gen 4 23 in my opinion, and those there, was superior to the older gen 3 23 in every category.

Due to the difference in recoil, follow up shots were incredibly quick for a .40 cal, even using 165gr gold dots. This led to incredible accuracy and more questions. I had an older gen 4 that wasn't like this. It worked, but it wasn't as smooth and I didn't notice any real difference in recoil when compared to a gen 3. The trigger sucked and though I didn't think there was anything wrong with it, it wasn't may favorite handgun. This bothered me at the range, so when I arrived home I dug the older gen 4 out of the safe. It was a 22 purchased as soon as they were available in my area. Upon closer inspection there were some noticeable differences. The RSA on the older one was sloppy. It is hard to explain, but I'll try. The older one, though heavier, seemed put together loosely. My friend had a Gen 4 17 that was made between my first Gen 4 22 and my newest Gen 4 23 that was made a couple months ago, and there were more differences. It seems the Glock has been making slight revisions the whole time. His gen 4 was smoother than my older one but not quite as good as my newest one. We took it even further, we went to our local gun shop and explained what we noticed and he was intrigued as well. He tried to pull out as many gen 4s made at different times, and what we found was actually awesome...

    The bottom line:
Though the older gen 4s worked, the newer they are, the better they are. It seems they were refining them the whole time, probably based on feedback and got them to the point they are now. If you handled and shot my oldest gen 4 and then handled and shot my newest one, you would think they are two different handguns. This may sound absurd but, honestly, the newest gen 4s have an HK quality to them. They are incredibly smooth, crisp, and accurate. From what I saw, it is also my opinion that they did more than adjust the weight of the RSAs. They are put together differently, and are not as sloppy. In conclusion, I plan on definitely upgrading my entire collection to the newest gen 4s. (Well, not the entire collection. I can't part with my Glock 38s.) These statements are just my opinions. If you are considering a gen 4, I hope you found it informative.

Glocks shoot pretty well the way they come... That's why everyone keeps them looking the same...

Maybe get an OD Glock if you want something different... or a long barrel 17L or 24...

Glock has been refining the RSA's quite a bit, especially for the G19's (to improve reliability), but also overall to prevent breakage of the front plastic cylindrical spring retaining face that you see in the front of the assembly/gun. Without looking at mine, I believe they added a rubber washer just behind the front face. If you have the old RSA, you can contact Glock and they will send you a new one with an postage-prepaid envelope to send back the old one. It takes a while to get it.

What other differences are there between older and newer Gen 4's?
