Range Report: Glock 30 Gen 4

    Hey All,

    NIB G30 Gen4:
I field stripped it to inspect before firing, but did not clean any factory oils or gunk out. (I usually do...)

I was using American Eagle 230gr FMJ (100 rounds)
    and Tula 230gr (150 rounds)
and PMC Bronze 230gr (50 rounds JHP and 50 rounds FMJ)

I also installed my new Streamlight TLR-3 after the first 30 rounds, and kept it installed the entire range session.

Also installed two Pierce magazine floorplate extensions. These fit perfectly and provided a much better grip feel than that goofy floorplate that Glock insists on using.

After the first 150 rounds or so, I installed the beavertail backstrap that Glock now provides with certain guns.
AWESOME feel and better control with the beavertail installed! How long has Glock been providing these things?
(my G30 came with 4 backstraps: two regular and two beavertail)

    ZERO MALFUNCTIONS of any kind.
    Drama-free and reliable performance!

From 10 yds to 30 yds, the G30 was super accurate, and kept on hitting what I was aiming at. Of course, I got a bit trigger happy at times, and sprayed and prayed, just because....

    What didn't I like?
Brass was raining down on my jungle boonie hat (which collected in nicely for reloading) for many shots, but mostly the ejection pattern was where it should be. As things loosened up, it seemed to improve?

The goofy magazine plate that Glock provides with the G30 gives my pinkie finger a "pinch" while firing...fixed that by installing Pierce extensions (although the Pierce extensions could use a slight breaking of the sharp edges....)

After using a Dan Wesson 1911 lately....the serrated trigger seemed to give my trigger finger a workout.

    What I loved:
    100% reliability
lightweight, accurate, and just plain badazz with 45 ACP/Streamlight/beavertail/Pierce extensions

Nightstand duty began last night, and will continue for as long as I own this gun!

My 2013 Gen3 30 only does the BTF (or high rear ejection) with light loads. I tried it with my 1911 ammo loaded for competition (just makes PF) and I got the rear ejections. Factory ammo doesn't do it, feeding the belief that the lower power ammo does it more.
I also replaced the stock mag “pinchers” with the Pierce units, way better…
Serrated trigger has never bothered my finger from day one. I like the extra grip it provides to prevent your finger from sliding in or pulling off the trigger face.
The 30 is my only Glock so far, bought earlier a couple of months ago

Great choice, very accurate and easy to shoot. Ran it at a recent gun shoot and finished 5th out of 20, with the smallest gun of the group... Mostly 1911's, full size Glocks, and 6" revolvers.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

That's an interesting data point, one I'm going to keep for future reference, so thanks for making that point clear. We occasionally hear about BTF problems, but only rarely does someone do some experimentation and pin down the source of a problem. Not only is it good data, but it supports the theory that under-powered ammo just won't cycle the lighter guns properly.

    Well done!

I sold my Dan Wesson CCO to fund 2 Glock pistols!!
I babied that 1911 like it was my first born child.....and for me (ex-infantry) that is not the relationship I want with a gun!

Cool! I am right there with you. I absolutely love the 1911 platform, but am still 100% more partial to Glocks! I LOVE 'EM! I think you made a great "trade"! Welcome to the Forum and thank you for your service

Don't get me wrong....given the financial freedom to own some more excellent 1911 pistols...I WOULD!
Tight budget right now (just bought house) so....all my firearms are all "business" for now.

I'm jealous. How long is before people start asking why Glock does not offer a 30 with both the beavertail and a skinny grip?
