Glock 42 article in new Guns & Ammo Magazine

There's a 3 page article on the Glock 42 in the new February issue of Guns & Ammo Magazine.
The author liked the G42 because it is a .380 that isn't too small to shoot!
    Glock 42 specs listed:
    5.94 in. long,
    4.13 in. tall,
    .836 in. wide,
    13.4 oz. empty.
    Comparing to my Glock 36:
    6.96 in. long,
    4.76 in. tall,
    1.10 in. wide,
    22.42 oz. empty
Not sure I'll drop down to a .380 for that small size difference.

I'll compare it to my G26:
    6.41 inches high
    4.17 inches tall
    1.18 inches wide

So it's a a half inch shorter, and slightly thinner. I carry my G26, and wouldn't mind something thinner. So if it were a single-stack 9mm with these dimensions, I'd be all over it. But I agree with you - for a .380, it's nothing special.

I'd have to pass on a .380, period.

But this is going to be interesting. Will Glock sell them as fast as they can hit the shelves, or was a recent article I read about the .380ACP comeback, being a "cute" fad, that's now over, and Glock missed the boat? I'm clueless, but I want to watch this and see.

If I had to guess, I'd bet they will go fast at first, as Glock people will want one for their collection, then will taper off and sit in dealer show cases for quite a while.

I guess only time will tell.

I will wait till the fad is over, (like with the S$W shield), and get one for a reasonable price ....

I'm strongly thinking of picking up the G42 when it comes out. I need a good 380 since I can't seem to get my Hi-point 380 to fire without jamming. I have quite a bit of 380 ammo built up as well so that's not a problem for me. But I do love my G26.

Sorry to say given the size, weight and caliber I have no interest in the G42. I hope it's a good seller for Glock, but I won't be one of the buyers.

And that, almost exactly parallels the gist of the article I read. I think you're right on the money, but I have to be the first to admit that I'm clueless and just guessing.

I personally have no use for a .380, but I'm just one person. I belong to an M&P forum, and the Shield was all the news for a long time. Everyone seemed to be overwhelmed about the Shield, their wait, for some seemed almost unbearable. Then they hit the shelves, and were going as fast as they came in. I've read a lot of their (now) lamenting at even buying one, much less at full retail, and long waits.

Still, I see some of the for sale sites, where people are still looking for them, so I'm not sure if there is a shortage, or people just wanting what someone else bought, at a nice (used) discount.?

So what's the point? Well, could this be what's going to happen to the Glock 42? Will there be bugs to work out?

You're probably doing the "wise" thing, OT, by just waiting, but will it be a short wait or a long one? Will people who buy them be underwhelmed? Or will they be the new holy grail of the Glock family?

I wish I had a crystal ball, I'd really like to see what happens. I'd like to revisit this thread about a year after they are fairly widely available for purchase.

I have bought many on first sight, some were impulse driven, ie, cause the other guy has one, but along side of those are the ones that I waited for whatever reason, but they finally, came home with me.(this is the category the G falls into for me)

And then there are those that got away ...

I sure would have loved a single stack 9mm Would have fit into my common ammo supply and I just really dig the 9x19...

I wouldn't give up just yet. If Glock is listening to the Glock enthusiast customers (that would be .... us), they know there is demand for a single-stack 9mm. It could be built pretty easily using the existing G36 frame, they'd just need to make up a new slide, magazine, ejector, extractor, and barrel. The G36 is single stack, and it's about the size of the G26 (I believe).
