Hey all,
I finally took the plunge and bought myself a Glock. I'm now the proud owner of a new third generation Glock 19 with factory night sights. My local range had one for a good price, so I couldn't pass it up.
Initially I was a little disappointed in the trigger, since it was quite a bit rougher and heavier than the range's rental G19. I was not getting quite as good of groups with the new pistol. After my first range trip with it, I did a stone and polish job on all the critical contact areas, and that seemed to help quite a bit. It still would break harder, but was much smoother and more crisp. I don't have a trigger pull gauge, so I don't know the exact number. I wanted to add an extended slide stop lever and and extended mag release, and I also ordered a 3.5 lb connector and NY-1 trigger spring while I was at it.
The parts came in yesterday, and so far I LOVE the difference. The 3.5 lb connector made the trigger break much easier. I can see why this is the connector to use for competition shooting. With the stock trigger spring, I felt it was a little too light overall for defensive purposes (at least until I get more training with this weapon), so I put the NY-1 spring in. It made the takeup stiffer but was still very smooth and clean. It definitely has a more "double-action" type feel to it. I really like this combination. It is stiff enough to provide some extra margin of safety for those adrenaline-pumping situations, but is smooth and crisp enough to allow for very accurate shooting. By riding the reset of the trigger, follow-up shots are fast and on target for me. I'm very satisfied with this mod. BTW, I used a Scherer 3.5 lb connector. I had to bend it out away from the trigger housing a bit more to provide a better snap to the trigger reset, but other than that it dropped right in. Good part.
I also like the extended slide stop lever and extended mag release. Both are Glock factory parts and dropped in and worked flawlessly. The mag release is a little long, so I may trim it down a little to avoid possible accidental mag drops. It's a $4 part, so no biggie if I go back to stock.
The factory night sights are very nice as well. They have good sight picture and are just as bright as the new Meprolights on my Kimber.
I also picked up a glock tool and a fobus paddle holster. Both are great. The Fobus is pretty tight and requires quite a yank to draw the gun. I've read they take a while to break in. I had a dead 9V battery on my desk, so I stuck that in the trigger guard area of the holster to spread it out a bit. I left it like that overnight to let the plastic "stretch" a bit. It helped a lot and now I can draw the gun without giving myself a wedgie, and it still holds the gun very securely.
Thanks to everyone who helped me decide on this fine pistol. I can see myself getting many years of enjoyment from it.
