So I picked up a glock 21 sf gen 3 with night sites and thought it was pretty standard. A friend of mine saw it and noticed it was different than most gen 3s...it has a full picatinny under the barrel and an ambidex mag release. He said only a few of them were made and werent supposed to be sold or marketed to civilians or even law enforcemnt or something along those lines. I've been searching all over for info to clarify this and am coming up empty handed, I cant even find a pick of a gen 3 that looks like mine...anybody know what the deal is with this setup?
That's pretty cool! Post up some pics wqhen you get a chance!

They're not really rare. I had to have mine replaced by Glock because the ambi mag release fell apart. Good luck with yours.

As a Christian, you may be the only bible someone ever reads.
They also made them with the Pic rail and regular mag release. I had one a while back. They also made them with the regular GLOCK rail and the ambi mag release. The ambi models were problematic for some ... so much that GLOCK won't be surprised if you call them with issues. If so, they will likely replace your frame with a regular one free of charge. You will probably only pay shipping. If yours runs fine don't sweat it. If you have issues go ahead and contact them.
Side note: GLOCK did market these to both civilians and LE agencies. My local shop has some they got on a LE trade-in from a GA agency with Std GLOCK rail and ambi release.
Sounds like a really cool Glock.

The Pic rail is very mean looking. I like it. However, it makes holster selection difficult as most makers don't accommodate them.
Good point. I had similar issues when trying to purchase used holsters for my 1911 with rail. Most 1911 users shy away from a rail so most holsters won't accommodate a rail. Of course I have had no issues purchasing new but sometimes a good deal can be found when buying used.
