    Preventive Maintenance Program

    Greetings to all forum,
I swear I tried, I used the "search" function, but I found nothing.

The question is: exist a Preventive Maintenance Program for Glock pistol based on fired shots?

I would replace the pieces that can break, before they do.

    Thank you,
    Arturo Mandi

An annual check by an armorer and replace the RSA every 3000 to 5000 rounds are the only things suggested by Glock I believe. The gen 4's are at the high end of that range with the earlier models at the low end.

I replace all the springs at the same time.

Thank you OHgaz for your quik replay.
Do you think that if I substitute the original RSA with a DPM Systems or similar I can stay relaxed for one or two years?

I've only used Glock springs in my Glocks with the exception of a 3.5 lb connector from Lone Wolf in one pistol.

How many rounds do you fire in a month? That would be a better way to gauge when you need springs.

Even Glock has given up on the 3,000 to 5,000 round count because of different powered rounds wearing the springs at different rates. They've now changed their material to just "test".

There's too many variables to predict much more accurately when you're springs will need changed. Aftermarket springs don't change the longevity any unless you change spring weights. The factory Glock spring weight is best suited for working reliably with the widest range of ammo.

    Hi Gaz,
in this period I fire one thousand shots in a month.

Can I say that Glock recoil spring must be replaced every 5000 rounds?

    Thanks for your response MtStream.
In your opinion, what would be a proper Preventive Maintenance Program?

If you go here https://us.glock.com/customer-servic...able-materials there is a document titles "Preventative Maintenance Instructions"

It's a good start. The one test they dont include is the Recoil Spring Test also called the Return to Battery Test. I perform this test every time I clean a Glock.

    With an Unloaded firearm
    1. Cycle the slide
    2. Point the gun straight up, pull and hold the trigger all the way to the rear
    3. While holding the trigger to the rear - pull the slide to the rear
    4. Slowly walk the slide back forward
    5. When you feel the spring tension release, turn loose of the slide
    6. The slide should move the final 1/4 inch or less into full battery on its own.
    7. Release the trigger

If the slide moves when you release the trigger or when you start to lower the gun, it has failed the RSA test.

Typically a failure indicates the recoil spring assembly needs replaced. However, some aftermarket trigger parts can cause a gun to always fail this test. A dirty gun could also be a reason for failure.
