    polishing feed ramp

Opinions appreciated on polishing a Glock feed ramp. Should it be done at all? How should it be done? Thanks.

It shouldn't unless you want to start causing issues for yourself and the reliability of your GLOCK.

The Glock feed ramp is so short that polishing has no effect. I polished the ramp on one G34 and left one alone, used both in competition and experienced no difference in feed reliability. I believe that it would have no positive effect.Chris

Are you having some sort of feed problems? If the gun works correctly, I wouldn't mess with it...

Thanks everyone, I will leave the feed ramp alone. I've had no problems with my gen4 23. So far I like everything about my new Glock.

I polish the feed ramp on all my pistols, I can't believe that people say negative things about it. It definitely won't hurt anythng.

I'll disagree with you 100%. There have been a many kitchen table gunsmiths that have ruined firearms by polishing feed ramps. It is very prevalent in the 1911 world but can effect other models as well. Just like doing a .25 cent trigger job on a GLOCK can help the feel of the trigger or it can screw it up badly if too much material is taken away by someone that has no clue what they are doing and gets overzealous. Since the feed ramp is part of the barrel on GLOCKS, there is "less" of a chance that someone can mess things up it doesn't mean that it couldn't happen.

Everyone gets to do what they want to their weapons. I see plenty of threads where people go out and buy a GLOCK, start modifying it because they read on the internet that doing X will make it a better pistol and then start having problems. The fix is always to return it back to stock and amazingly the pistol starts functioning 100% again.

Like TheLaw said this "custom" work is only as good as the person doing it and the materials they use.

If the angle isn't right, if the amount or pressure (read ... amount of material taken off), if the material used to "polish" is too harsh/rough/etc, .... you could potentially cause feeding issues.

As they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.".

Personal opinion? _jb, TheLaw and Vol are absolutely correct. If you have feed issues on a Glock, it's not the ramp.
