All,
Just got back from my first outing with my new Gen 4 G26....Here's what I came back with:
The Good
For such a small gun, it is shockingly accurate. Clearly more accurate than me at 15 yds.
Having 3 10rd mags on hand is nice !
The medium backstrap makes the gun fit my hand nicely
So quick and easy to strip and clean
The OK
After 30rds my pinky was pretty sore..but then again its a subcompact; so whatcha expectI'll try a mag extension
The Bad
In 100 rounds, I had 3 jams where the round was wedged against the top of the chamber. Not sure whats up with it, I couldn't trace it to a particular mag; but I'll keep an eye on it over the next couple of hundred rounds. I was using Federal 115gn ball fwiw.
I'm planning on tossing another 100 rounds or so though it tomorrow, I'll try with some different ammo and see if that helps. Shame, because Im a Federal fanboy...
Any thoughts ?
Thanks,
Steve
What ammo were you using? How familiar are you with shooting semi-auto pistols? There really has not been an issue with the G26 recoil springs, the subcompacts have always had the dual spring, so it is probably either grip or ammo.
If you are new to semi-auto pistols, a little practice will go a long ways... Try to work on keeping a "level as possible" platform for the slide to cycle on. If you use exaggerated motions or move early (before the round fires, my teenage kids do this) it can affect the timing of the slide cycling.
Or, if with a brand new pistol, you get some of the lower powered ammo available (Federal Champion is a good example of weak ammo), there may not be enough energy to cycle the pistol.
Try running at least 100 rounds of some higher powered ammo (either hollow point, NATO 124 grain from Winchester, 124 gr American Eagle etc) and give your pistol a good lube and have another go.
Don't worry, the G26 is known as an excellent compact pistol. Keep us posted with your results...

Thanks for the info ! I've been shooting semi-autos for 20 years or so...But ya never know when your technique might need tweeking when moving to a different platform ! This is my first subcompact. I usually carry a USP or 1911.
I was shooting Federal Champion, maybe that is the issue ? It was the lightweight 115gn ball ammo. I'll be sure to snag some different ammo this evening and head back out to the range tomorrow for another go.
Thanks again,
Steve
Well, I'm not a psychic so the Federal Champion is the likely suspect. Once you've got a few hundred rounds through the G26, it'll probably run fine even with the Federal Champion ammo. If you do a google search for weak 9mm ammo, Federal Champion is the lowest power factor out there.

I have a 26 gen 3 and have only had 1 case where the round didn't come out I have run about 600 rounds since buying, and the one case was with my son where he was limiting the slides motion with his grip. I agree with you, the accuracy of this small gun is really amazing. I love mine, carries easy and shoots well.
Have the new gen 4 g26 and ran 100 rounds of federal last week with no problems or hitches. Shot smoothly. Will run another 100 tommorow.
Thanks again for the feedback. I didn't get a chance to get back to the range on Sunday; we'll try again on Wednesday.
Quick Update:
I hit up the range today with a box of Remington UMC 115gn HPs. Not one FTF/Jam/etc. I'll pick up a couple of more boxes of the stuff (It was CHEAP at Wallyworld), and will update the thread once more after 500rds or so.
Thanks again,
Steve
Shot a 100 rounds federal fmjs and 50 rounds tulammo yesterday without a hitch. Shot smoothly. Very pleased. Surprised that it can almost keep up with my glock 34 and glock 35 with accuracy up to 15 yards (havent tried out accuracy at 25 yards yet), and recoil has improved a lot and very manageable. Definitely a keeper. Glad yours went smoothly too Steve? Ever thought of putting hogue grips or decals? Thinking of getting either one. Worried the hogue may make it stockier since it is already a stocky compact.
Good info; glad to hear its working out well for you.
I really haven't put much thought into grips yet; as I figured I'd give it a couple more hundred rounds until I get a feel for what it really needs.
