Good evening all. New member first post. This is a little off topic, but it appears that the thread headed this way. I wondering if anyone else has the thumb drive holster by tactical 511 This is a retention holster Some times my activities are quite physical and i am always concerned about weapon coming out of holster. This appears to be a workable solution. You push down on thumb button to release and then remove weapon. It looks to me like it would be very easy to do. What does everyone think?
I have it and personally I think it's terrible. For one, I don't believe that most civilians need "active" retention on their holsters. Of course this is a personal opinion, carry how you wish but with this specific holster, it sticks out very far from the carrier's side. It's a big bulky holster.
I see the same issue with this holster as I do with the Blackhawk regarding the mounting screws and paddle. It's going to be a point of failure on the holster so while the firearm may not come out of the holster itself, the entire holster can be ripped off your belt.
Third, the thumb release is not very good in my opinion. It works pretty well if your thumb lands on the front or rear of the button but if your thumb lands square in the middle, where it naturally wants to fall, it requires a harder push to release the firearm. While practicing drawing from this holster, I gave the thumb release a positive push several times and when I went to draw the weapon, it wouldn't release.
Luckily for me, this was a borrowed holster from a friend of mine who was given the holster to try out from an industry Rep so neither of us have any cash wasted in it. My two cents!

I use a galco IWB holster when I conceal my G23 chambered and never have concern of accidental shooting. I carry at 6 O' Clock and 1' O clock (Appendix) and have never had an issue. Of course, my holster carries my trigger guard so unless my firing pin decides to release or i pull the trigger I'm not going to have a discharge. One of the most important factors is the holster, how it fits, and how comfortable you are with it. If your wearing a holster you don't have faith in, it defeats the whole purpose of carrying. Hope this helps and good choice on the G23!

Just because a holster covers the trigger doesn't mean you cannot have a negligent discharge. I have no idea what this website is, it was just the first one I found the story on. Note - I also do not necessarily blame the holster brand either as the carrier was negligent in keeping up his gear and always checking it for function.
