    Competition Sping kit/safteys?

Can one of the experts please explain how the glock safeties are effected by the installation of a Competition Spring kit. I understand the trigger safety spring is reduced power, but by how much, and how much does it decrease the safety's effectiveness? What about the trigger spring? Any other safety issues? I only plan to use the gun at the range but still would like to know how safety's are effected. Thanks.

I am by no means one of the experts, but, I believe that the trigger safety will still function as normal as it is travel activated not pressure reliant.

I personally like the drop in trigger kits from GlockTriggers.com
GlockTriggers.com custom competition drop-in triggers for Glocks

I haven't personally started individually swapping out trigger components outside of a connector.

Which competition spring kit are you considering?

I already installed the glockworx kit w/race. New trigger pull is amazing 2lbs. The trigger safety works fine, just someone on one of my reloading forums commented that it was unsafe. It doesn't appear to be to me.

    Duke;

There is a little confusion, at least to me, about the terms in your first message on this topic. The trigger safety is the little finger that projects from the middle of the trigger face, it is an integral part of the trigger assembly. There is no separate "trigger safety spring", although there is a plastic spring of sorts molded into the trigger safety.

The Zev Tech Competition Spring kit contains three springs: a firing pin spring, a firing pin safety spring, and a trigger spring.

The firing pin spring drives the firing pin (sometimes called the striker) into the primer, so the Zev Tech part will exert reduced force as you pull the trigger and cock the striker, which will lighten the pressure you feel when you pull the trigger. The downside of a light firing pin spring is that it might fail to drive the firing pin with sufficient force to detonate the primer, which will result in a failure to fire.

The firing pin safety spring in their kit will reduce the downward pressure on the firing pin safety, reducing some resistance as a projection on the trigger bar needs to push this safety up as the bar travels back. This reduced pressure will no doubt reduce trigger pull weight a bit more. I can't think of much of a downside to this spring, but I haven't given it much thought. I guess the only thing a weak spring would do in a very dirty gun would be to fail to engage the firing pin safety.

The trigger spring in their kit, if it is like everyone else's, will exert more force on the trigger bar, because this spring helps you pull the trigger (bar) back and down out of the way of the striker once the trigger bar has released the nose on the striker. I believe that the standard Glock trigger spring is rated at about 4 pounds, and the aftermarket springs are typically 6 pounds. Installation of an aftermarket trigger spring is said to reduce trigger pull by about 1 pound.

If you want to see the mysteries of the Glock trigger bar in action, I recommend the video at this link:

    Genitron.com: Basics-Interactive Illustrated Glock Pistol

If you got a 2-pound trigger just by installing the spring kit, you certainly got your money's worth if you wanted a light trigger.

For carry or defense purposes, in my opinion it is not a good idea to use anything but stock springs (and almost all other parts) in the Glock. When and if the need arises for you to use the pistol for defense, you will not be short of the extra adrenaline needed to pull against a 6-pound trigger.

    Chris,

Great explanation, thanks. I'll check out the video. I am getting light primer strikes, especially since I use CCI primers. I'm told to switch to federals. However I ordered the extended striker that's suppose to eliminate the light primer strikes.

    Cheers,
    Duke

+1 an EXCELLENT explaination and right on target. Lightening trigger pull does not have an effect on the Glock safety system

I have had friends do this and I have shot there pistols, they have functioned fine, but would like to back up Cohland and what he said, 2 of these friends did exactly what Cohland said and there results were OUTSTANDING. I hope this helps and please let me know how this ends up.
