how do you switch the mag release to the other side (gen4 G17)?

Bought a used G17 (gen4) today... The previous owner was a lefty. Was wondering how you switch the mag release over to the other side.

    Thanks!

Pretty simple. Clear the pistol, remove the slide. Looking down inside the pistol from the top move the release a little bit to see where it comes in the handle inside. You will see a long silver rod looking spring. Use a screw driver to push it to the side then toward the rear of the pistol. It will pop out of the release and the release can now be removed though the side of the pistol. To put it back in just reverse the release and the steps you followed to remove it.

Turned out to be slightly tricky, in that I had to hold that spring/rod out of the way in order to re-insert the mag release. With a flat-head screwdriver, that turned out to require a few attempts because the rod kept either slipping off the screwdriver or the screwdriver kept getting in the way of the mag release. Finally got it, though. :-)

Haven't shot this G17 yet, but it sure feels nice in my hand...

im sure you have probably read this already but make sure you have an "02" guide rod and spring to ensure reliability...if its not an 02 spring then give glock a call and they will send you a new one

Sorry you had problems. I forgot to mention that but, it is a spring. Sounds like you handled it just fine though. Good luck and let us know how it shoots.

With respect to getting the rev 2 spring, I thought Glock would only send a replacement if the gun fails to function. I'd that not the case? Can I just get one preemptively?

If you call them and tell them you want one they will send it out. The guy might try to give you a little grief about it but if you insist he will send it out.

Yeah as far as I know Glock technically considers this a recall item so they should send one out with little grief depending on who you talk to, I have talked to very intelagent people there and I have talked to people who I dont think had a brain cell to spare when calling them..just luck of the draw
