That's exactly what I meant. I've got a Ruger SR1911 and a Sig P220ST and my gen4 G21 is has much less recoil, IMHO than either of the other .45s and weighs less even with almost double the magazine capacity.

I really like my G21, can't wait till the gen4 G20s are more available!

I wonder if there is a new extractor for the 21's?

Thank you Cohland for your input. I believe i had an ammo issue breaking-in my 21. Where i reside i have a Major problem getting ammo (after Sandy Hook i am sure it will be worse) over the INTERNET. 9 out of 10 sites that will sell to you, will not sell to my due to my location. I am not Bill Gates, and don't reload. Paying $30+ for 20 rounds of higher charged S/D ammo rubs me the wrong way to break-in my 21. Two things i ask:

What is "normal ejection distance for a Gen1 thru Gen3 Glock 21?

Any recommendations as to less expensive over the counter 45 acp i should buy? (i am not a fan of steel cased ammo except for an AK-47)

I don't know, but if he calls Glock he will find out in a hurry.

My Gen3 G21SF ejects my reloads about eight to ten feet, roughly on a heading of between 80 and about 125 (that's the best way I can describe the direction, other than "generally to the right and rear"). My reloads are 230-grain bullets going about 800fps.

I don't shoot SD ammo in my G21 (or my 1911), I just shoot 230-grain FMJ round nose because it's less expensive and to me has less recoil.

For brands, I shoot American Eagle, MagTech, Speer, Remington/UMC, Winchester (white box), Federal, or Sellier & Bellot. I would try Cabelas, the local Cabelas here always has ammo and they do ration it out to 200 rounds per person per day. You might have some luck there. Also, in your area, Farm and Fleet stores might have it, as well as WalMart.

You might have to travel out to the Western Suburbs: Barrington, Crystal Lake, or Woodstock. I used to live out there, so I'm familiar with the territory.

Pat...I know that you're trying to get an answer to normal ejection distance for your Glock 21. I don't know if this will help, but go to gunsprings.com and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on FAQ's. Check out #3. In that response they give some good general info & distances. Maybe that will help.

I read the link Bob thank you. I wonder if i should store the 21 with the side locked back to lighten the recoil spring pressure by compression?

Pat...I don't think the locked slide treatment will get you where you need to be. I'd run some more boxes of ammo through it. With price being an issue, I'd buy the lesser grain cheaper stuff. Just get some more rounds through it. If things have not improved, I'd buy a replacement Recoil Spring Assemby (Gen 4 specific). It is always good to have 1 or 2 extra of these anyway. Glockmeister has them in stock for $17. Replace the RSA and see how she behaves.

That is a good link! I never saw that before, and I have been buying springs from Wolff for a couple of years. I've taken the liberty of copying what they put on the site:

"The factory spring weight is designed to operate the pistol with what would be considered average loads, plus or minus a little. It is not uncommon for manufacturers to specify what they consider a factory ammunition load.

In general terms, the heaviest recoil spring that will allow the pistol to function reliably is the best choice - tempered by the above factors. As a rule of thumb, if your spent casings are first hitting the ground in the 3 to 6 foot range, then the recoil spring is approximately correct. If you are ejecting beyond the 6-8 foot range, then a heavier recoil spring is generally required. If your casings are ejecting less than 3 feet, a lighter recoil spring may be needed to assure reliable functioning. "

Thanks for passing that along, nevadabob.
