I understand the CA laws on more than a 10 round magazine. But, what if you ordered a high capacity(standard 17 rd in any other state)magazine from a website? Can they sell to CA? What if they did say by mistake send me a 17 rd mag? Who gets in trouble? Them, me, both? They are not suppose to sell, and I am not suppose to purchase... I guess they would get caught first, then they would come after me? What kind of trouble would I be in by purchasing a stock 17 rd magazine that is not allowed for purchase, but allowed to own?
i would advise you not to figure this out by buying something that is clearly stated as illegal. it could end up as a slap on the wrist, a fine, or revoking your permit(s).
... I would also not post about in online. I believe merely being in possession a hi-cap would get you in trouble, regardless of who made the mistake. Just send it to me and we'll be done with it. I live in a free state.

I'm not planning on purchasing, just curious as to the laws.
In Ca, you CAN possess, transport, fire, repair, make large capacity even larger, even loan to a friend at the range, but you just can not purchase anything larger than 10 round after Jan, 2000.
Kinda stupid ehhh?
I am just curious as to the the laws regarding this and how they enforce?
Like I said, new to semi-auto so this topic is all new to me!

Thanks for that info. I didn't know you could even possess them. That is lame to allow possession but not purchase. I guess it's like having pre-ban FA weapons or pre-ban mags.
Be careful with online purchases. A lot of individual sellers don't know which states are free and which are not. A lot don't care ... they just want your money. I actually just scored 3 hi-caps for a G19 NIB for $45 shipped. There was one buyer ahead of me but he was located in San Fran. I made sure the seller noticed that and he confirmed it with his shipping address. Long story short I got 3 NIB mags pretty cheap. Sucks to be in Cali.
I honestly have no idea how enforcement is checked/handled but suspect the stores know they are not supposed to sell to the communist states. Some may or may not have online checks in place. Maybe once you go to check out (not just placing things in your cart ... they still don't know who/where you are at that point) and enter your address something flags the prohibited items??? Prob not even that though. I bet it's an honor system thing. Not sure how the BATFE or anyone else would actually know. I seriously doubt they have people that check into things of that detail. They have bigger issues to deal with ... like taking forever approving my form 4s.
Just buy some pre-ban ones from someone else. Depending on what model you have I might even have some. I would sell them to you and just go buy more myself not a big deal to me that way you could have some. Shoot me a PM if your interested and we will see what I have.
if the present administration gets their way... all pistols/rifles with detachable magazines will be outlawed.... along with pump/auto shotguns... that covers just about 75% of all guns... before its over we won't be able to own a sling shot ...
Do you have any 33 rnd. mag. S & W 59 to use in a sub 2000 ???
