    Reciprocity and Safe Passage laws

It is ridiculous how many phone calls, emails, and internet searching I have to do to get information on the latest gun laws. Even calling the sheriff doesn't always work, everyone always points you someplace else. State government employees don't know their own gun laws (sigh) I suppose it's not important to them until someone gets shot and then everyone focuses on who is to blame, then they start digging into the archives to find the latest laws.

Anyway, I have a TN Carry Concealed Handgun permit/license. I am driving to Maryland, do I have to throw it in a locked box with ammo separate and out of reach? Or can I keep it tucked under my shoulder?

My latest research tells me I can have it if separated from the ammo and in two separate containers that are not "immediately accessible". Please let me know if this is correct or not.

    Thanks for your help!

From what I understand (and I admit, I'm not an expert), MD has NO reciprocity with ANY states. MD is very gun un-friendly.

I live in VA and I can open carry (without a permit) or concealed carry (with a permit - "shall issue"). But, 10 miles up the road, across the border into MD, there's no permit I can get that will allow me to legally carry in that state.

When I bring guns into MD, they're always cased, locked, ammo separate, and don't stop for gas/food/whizzing on your way out of the state.

Just to give you an idea of how bad MD gun laws are, The Maryland State Police maintain a registry of "regulated firearms" that are allowed to be sold within the state. So, just because Glock comes out with a new handgun model...doesn't mean you can BUY one. No, you have to wait until the state police get around to deciding whether you can, or cannot, legally purchase one.

Yeah. For some reason...by just total coincidence...the cities that have the strictest gun laws, are the highest crime areas. No correlation there, though (Baltimore, DC, Detroit, LA, Chicago, etc, etc, etc.).

    +1 to texanron
    everything you need.

Don't come to NJ at all. Guy called NJSP for rules on proper transport from Colorado, home to NJ, got stopped and got 7 years! Gov. Christie pardoned him after serving some time. I dont have the link handy, but it was a big fight for the NRA.
