    ---
This is the current state course used in the academies. It is a "revolver neutral" course, hence the 6 round loadings.

    ---

Here are pictures of the target. The shots on this course are scored 10 and 8 points respectively. The scoring lines are not pronounced enough to see at any distance.

There is a slightly different version of the course posted above that is used in classes at GPSTC. In those, the scoring areas are 10 and 5 points respectively.

Also, the course posted above may be called slightly differently by differing instructors. This doesn't change the basic format of the course though.

The target can be obtained here:

Sounds like its not to bad of a course. The one thing ive always had a problem is with dictating round counts in the gun and on target. We load to capacity in our quals but still have a dictated round count on target.

The round count is to make it "revolver neutral" and so that everyone is reloading at the same time.

This isn't my favorite course. It was put together by two instructors, at least that's the story, and then adopted by all of the academies. It was also mandated statewide unless agencies submit a substitute course to GALEFI for approval. GALEFI has a committee to make such determinations.

This sounds like an ideal marksmanship test for anyone trying to obtain a CCW.
    Once upon a time I said I'd never own a Glock,an AR15,and NEVER get married. Damn,never sure is a long,long time!!
Most of the money I've ever made was spent on alcohol, firearms, and wild women-the rest I just wasted.
I shoot IDPA-USPSA-GSSF-SASS and I am a registered tin can serial killer.

How often do you have to shoot this? ...or is it just once in the academy?

You have to pass the class to graduate the academy. POST requires qualification at least once a year, but agencies can require more than the minimum.

We have numerous open range days on which we run the course and provide training. Upon arriving at the range, personnel have to declare they intend to shoot for score, which they must do "cold" without any warm up/practice. Personnel can shoot for score as many times as they wish in hopes to bettering their scores, but if they declare that they are shooting for score, they face disciplinary action for failing to qualify. Three successive failing attemps is bad, bad news.

We have the following marksmanship awards:

    95-99.99 is a sharpshooter
    100 is an expert
100s back to back from cold is a master

Everyone that earns a marksmanship award gets to shoot GSSF matches on the SO's nickel. I rearrange shift schedules for shooters to go to the Conyers match, but I don't for the other matches.

Training typically regresses towards the lowest denomonator, but I instituted a policy this year that anybody getting below an 85 goes through remedial training. Anyone getting 85 or better will go through more advanced training.
