    New from Central Florida

Hello good people, new to this forum, looking for a new gen 4 23. I did find a gen 3. Now should I wait for a gen 4 or go ahead and purchase the gen 3. It felt very good in my hands. I have been carrying a M&P 40c for over a year. but doing a lot of research on the glocks. This will be my first Glock.

Thanks in advance for any info.

    Welcome aboard!

Although I don't own a G23, I would offer some free advice in response to your question.

If the Gen3 really fits your hand well, you can choose that but you will miss out on some features that may or may not make a difference to you:

    1. The Gen4 pistols have two extra backstraps (medium and large) and are now coming with two MORE extra backstraps that have a beavertail. That might be nice to have:Gen4 Beavertail Backstrap: Photos

    2. The Gen4 pistols have a compound Recoil Spring Assembly (RSA) that means you can't tune the recoil spring. I will wait for G23 owners to chime in on whether this is a Good Thing. Gen4 RSAs will not fit into the Gen3 frame.

    3. The Gen4 pistols have a reversible Magazine Catch, meaning it can be switched to the right side of the gun, usually something left-handed shooters want. Again, this won't fit into a Gen3 frame.

    4. If you do switch the Magazine Catch, you must use Gen4 magazines only: previous versions won't work with the switched magazine catch. But Gen4 magazines do work in Gen3 pistols.

Let's see what G23 owners have to say. I have a Gen4 G22 and I like it just fine, but it's a slightly larger pistol than the G23.

Again, we're glad to have you join us.

    Chris

Welcome to the great Glock Pro site. I have a Gen 3 23 and love it.
Out here in the LEFT Coast they will not allow the "unsafe" Gen 4's. Even though most of Law Enforcement here carry a Glock and some carry the Gen 4 the idiots in charge label the Gen 4 as "unsafe" since it was reported to have failed a drop test. Thus they will not allow us ordinary folks to have one. However its OK for the Cops.
From what I read on this and other sites the Gen 4's are almost the same as the Gen 3's and certainly as good. Others with experience with the Gen 4 will no doubt have more informed opinions.

I also don't own a G23.... My input would be that the decision between gen3 and gen4 on all models except the mid and full size 9mms comes down to fit and feel.

Initially, some of the gen4 G17s and G19s had some "fine function issues", that is, it was widely experienced that those models were somewhat ammo sensitive in respect to ejection patterns and reliability. That said, I believe Glock has that all sorted now, but others will give a different opinion.

But, the .40 cal models, like your desired G23, were not affected with the same issues as their 9mm cousins. So, first step, if you can find a shop with both generations, fondle the guns and see what "feels" better to you. Then, if still undecided, again if you can, find a local range that has both to rent and try them both. Only you can decide what you like best...

What I think is certain is that both generations of the G23 are solid guns. The G23 is known for handling the recoil of the .40 cal round really well, regardless of the recoil spring system.

Oh yeah... G'Day from Vegas and welcome to Glock.Pro!

If the price is right I would go for the Gen3. The Gen4 has a third mag and ambidextrous release, but is about $50 more. I am a lefty, but those features are not important to me. I would buy an FDE.
