    Anyone else like 10/22 rifles?

While recovering from my hip replacements I wanted a project to distract me from "recovery"... I had a "stock" Ruger 10/22 that there was nothing wrong with, so I decided I needed to rip into it and "fix" it!

The bolt and the receiver are still stock... What do you all think? Anyone else have one to share?

Have you ever thought of the Ruger 10/22 as the firearms analogy to the .57 Chevy? There are lots of them, they work well, but they're a blank canvas for the creative person.

That one looks like a winner to me! The only ones I have are bone stock, in the safe for the Grandsons.

Sounds like you're doing well, which is good to hear.

10/22s are so easy to work on you can do everything standing on (1) leg... I know that for a fact!

    Now THAT is funny!

You don't leave it out on the patio for the neighbors to see, do you? Might get some unwanted attention.

Dang you and your hip replacement! Now I am fully jealous of yours and feel the need to do the same. For a rifle I shoot 2-3 times a year at best!

I put a heavy barrel and laminated stock and bipods on mine. Kept it that way a couple of years and then went back to the original barrel and stock. Got too heavy for squirrel hunting. haha

Ok, I'll play. Here is my 10/22. Not a single part or screw on this gun is Ruger. Kidd receiver and action, Green Mountain 18" fluted bull barrel, Clark Custom 2.5 lb trigger and aluminum trigger housing, Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 Rimfire scope. The Hogue overmold stock was supposed to be just a placeholder until I found something better, but it shoots really well as is and I just haven't got around to replacing it.

Nice rifle! Have you looked at the Titan stocks? I went with the new Magpul Hunter X-22 because it accepts both barrel profiles, but it's being criticized over accuracy issues because it doesn't free float the barrel.

I havent shot it yet so I don't "know", but I suspect the Magpul will be fine for my needs. The Titan is very much accuracy oriented, but a bit heavy... Hell as heavy as my barrel is, I don't need more weight!

I suppose I should give a "build list" on my rifle shown... As I mentioned above, it's built on a Ruger receiver that I hand polished the interior to smooth the metal to metal interface between the receiver and the bolt. The bolt is also Ruger, but it has been polished to a mirror finish with a Volksquartsen extractor and firing pin. The trigger group is Rugers new BX drop in trigger group which drops the stock 6.5 to 7.5 pound pull weight to between 2.5 and 2.75 pound with a much smoother take up and cleaner break. I installed a 20" Green Mountain bull barrel and finished it off with a Leupold 3-9X40 Vari-x III scope with Weaver rings on a new Picatinny rail. It's supported by a Harris bipod..... Whew!
