IIRC there was a discussion over on ARFCOM a few years ago about the 1986 ban being illegally enacted. There was supposed to be a recording of the voting where the final vote was cast after the vote was closed. Obviously nothing changed, but at the time there was a lot of legal discussion about filing a suit and getting it repealed.

Politics make strange bedfellows. The same people that would not want the bill to be repealed for fear of losing "collector" value would ally with those that don't want firearms to be legal in the first place, maybe.

Talking more with the young range master at bass pro today. He is telling me that suppressor/silencers may be taken off of the '30s act, is it FFA? Possibly soon it may not be counted as one of the federally illegal things (like
Sawed off shotguns or automatics). He was
Suggesting that suppressors may be counted as legal with a background check. Any thoughts or responses?

No argument here about any bureaucracy. Just wondering if anyone else had heard similar rumors. What I gather is that stores will be able to sell suppressors like they sell guns now, with a federal background check, etc. One of the obstacles of teaching new students to shoot is the startling sound that can be a turn off. With a suppressor, that could make it easier to teach new shooters.

How would that work with a Glock? Would you need to have a special barrel that is equipped to handle a suppressor?

C barrel from Glock or Wolff. Not that expensive. We can hunt with suppressors in Florida. I need one for 7.62 x 39.

So, I think you are saying that you need to buy a barrel( lone Wolff or something else) that is threaded for the suppressor. In addition, if necessary is the tax stamp. And, of course, the suppressor itself. We're talking $1000 and upwards for the parts and tax?

I hate to say it, it a quality suppressor is over $1000, the barrel about $200ish, the stamp and some folks go with taller sights to account for the suppressor. Looking at $1500 ish.

Now if The Donald pulls this back, I wou,d look for the price of suppressors to drop dramatically.

Without having done shopping, I am not surprised at your estimate of suppressor costs. I suppose that also means a different suppressor for each different caliber. And if a new barrel is required for each caliber, then new barrels, too. Yes, I imagine that it is quite expensive, even if suppressors are made legal. An advantage may be if one is using one pistol for instruction purposes. It may be worth the investment for a reason like that.
