    S&W M&P .40 good or bad

my buddy is finally getting his cpl and he kept asking me all these questions about what gun he should get. i gave him a few good ideas but told him to at least give the glock a good look. he is staying away from the glock ( dont know why ) and wants a s&w
M&P .40 . I did a lot of reaserch on the gun(because he wont) and keep finding that people are having some problems with them.

what do you know about them?

I have had my M&P40/357Sig for almost two years now and it is my Eveyday Carry Weapon with a Crimson Trace Laser Grip. I originally purchased the M&P in the 357Sig caliber and obtained a 40S&W barrel from(www.gunbarrelsupply.com) of which I have the 40S&W barrel installed as of right now loaded with Federal 165 grain HST JHP. The barrel change is a breeze and is just a matter of field stripping and replacing with the barrel of your choice (357Sig or 40S&W). When I shoot the 357Sig I normally load it with 125grain Speer GoldDots. I am ultimately satisfied with this weapon platform and would not sell it if someone offered me twice what I paid for it but that's just me.

i had a mp40c for a while. it never jammed, but the slide lock had a mind of it's own. i sent it in to s&w three times and they couldn't fix it. eventually sold it to fund another 1911 purchase. it's an issue that affects a small minority of them. i'd still recommend getting one if that's what you want. they're pretty accurate, and would feed anything.

I have no first hand knowledge on the M&P line but I know the local Sheriff Office rejected them after trials as a Duty weapon. I don't know all the details but the Firearms Instructor I spoke with about it wasn't happy with the quality. S.O. duty gun decisions are not always made based purely off a weapons performance/quality but are sometimes chosen by cost...

A stock M&P doesn't interest me. They feel good in the hand, but the lack of distinctive trigger reset keeps me from being able to run them with any accurate speed.

I am interested in an M&P45 with one of the APEX trigger kits to be used solely for IDPA CDP, but I'll have to come across a great deal on such a pistol to get one.

I had a M&P .45 and it was one of my favorite guns to date, I too was dissapointed with the trigger (mine was gritty, got use to the light reset) but that was the only thing that dissapointed me....It was a beautiful gun and functioned great, very soft shooting, and i know I will probably catch some hell for this but it made my glock feel like a brick in the hand. I was trying to trade it in on a M&P .40 but they didnt have any and my impatience lead me to the Glock. Am I dissapointed? No..Do I miss the M&P? Yes..Would I recomend it? Highly
