This came up recently as a Glock owner was replacing some stolen gun, he ask me, so I ask you, what's the Best Carry every day 1911 ( he wants 5pm model )he can buy today, price is up to $1000.00ish or so. He does not need to spend that much to be happy but will. Please give me your thoughts.
I want to see the new Rugers first hand before making any type of pronouncement. Other than that, if sticking with purely production pistols, I say it's a toss up between Springfield and Kimber.
I'd go with Dan Wesson most likely. My last 2 1911s are Sigs, however, they are not "purist" 1911s as they have external extractors. Sure are good shooters though and they have digested any JHP ammo I've thrown at them. Here's the latest, a Tac Ops (replaced the Blackwater)...

I'm a 1911s snob and personally wouldn't bother with anything less than semi-custom and that would double his budget.

..... in that order.
I am surprised by all this Kimber love? I was about to get on-board until I read the thread on here about the NC ALE having to drop them after failures, no harm meant just what I read. Our local BLET class last year also had a student miss qualifing with a Kimber due to jams, thats a fact. The range officer, a cert Glock armour (holds a number of firearms cert.) could not get it to RTB, they gave up and he was loaned him a S&W M&P. Then others are just plain great, are they really this inconsistent? Then I read about the rust. It may all be haters, I just do not know.
As to Springfield, I have experienced nothing but just high quality.
I have had many Colts, not a problem other than a custom .40 had a bad mag. But it seems I am the only one here that likes the Colt.
How about Para or S&W or Sig???
I bet you are right.
