Here's how I read the forums... Maybe it will help you guys...
The first thing I do when I connect to Glock.pro is click the "Settings" menu link at the very top of the page... It will pop up a window that shows all the new posts in threads that you are subscribed to... Starting a thread or posting in one subscribes you to that thread. So, clicking "Settings" effectively shows you all the new posts in threads you have already started or posted in. I like to read the old, familiar posts that I am already interested in first...
After I have finished reading all the new posts in threads I am subscribed to, I click the "New Posts" menu link as TheLaw mentioned above. This shows all the new threads on the forum, minus the posts I just read... This shows all the new threads and posts that I have not posted in before.
After that, I click the "Mark all posts read" button... That way I don't see the same old threads that I'm not interested in every time, unless someone posts in them again.

I have the same problem as Ed, and prefer to use the portal.
