What is your favorite 9mm practice ammo (clean, reliable, economical, etc.)?

What is your favorite 9mm carry ammo that you run in the same pistol?

I would assume same weight bullet, but what do you like as far as practice vs. carry to ensure shooting the same?

I'm looking to stock up on some 9mm ammo for practice and want something that meets the criteria mentioned above (clean, economical, reliable).

Some of the brands I have been looking at are Fiocchi, S&B, Blazer Brass, PMC Bronze, Speer, Winchester. And trying to decide on 115 or 124 grain.

Thanks

Freedom Munitions for practice and match ammo. 147gr for plinking and competition, I may go back to 124 the next time I purchase. 124 & 147 shoot noticeably softer than 115gr.

Carry is Federal HST 124gr. There’s not a good correlation between plinking and carry ammo because the self defense rounds are loaded hotter. So you have to practice with your SD as well.

Trigger time is trigger time though. Get a clean, consistent practice ammo and shoot a lot of it. Blazer Brass is pretty decent stuff too.

Blazer in 124 and 147 gr and my reloads for target, steel matches and plinking.
Reloads vary with power and bullet weight just cause I can.

Carry ammo is Federal HST 124 gr. Fresh box about every 6 months, shoot up the old stuff at the range.

I assume that you are talking about feeding a Glock, which will eat almost anything.

I like Perfecta and American Eagle for match and "normal" use. For most of my practice I use Federal Champion (from my Walmart) because of the price.

For carry I use Hornady Critical Defense, but for any of these it depends on what you are comfortable with and what you can shoot well.

I shoot lots of Federal aluminum case. Loaded fairly hot by my feel.

Perfecta (last time Walmart had it) is probably way over loaded. It blows large flames even out of my 17's in broad daylight. It spits shards of the jacket onto the table in front of me, and out on the floor of the range. It leaves gold flecks on the internals of my guns. The owner of a local range told me about the gold flecks in his rental guns, and the jackets. So he knew what the shooters brought with them. I had shot at a Glock match weeks before and had jacket pieces appear on the table. Mystery solved! Perfecta in .40 was banned at a range on the Eastern side of South Florida as it blew apart a M&P, and a Gen4 23. I found that on Facebook. Also a shooter on another site had their .357 blow the end ring off of the case in a revolver. Then he couldn't chamber the next round.

I carry HST, elcheapo Remington UMC JHP's. I also carry 124gr Hornady American gunner in +P.

FOR CCW, this exclusively in Glock 17 and 42..
Better hope you never use this in a SD situation. The DA could have a field day with the jury. You probably don't want to defend yourself in a civil trial with it either. I have yet to see or hear from anywhere about the REAL effectiveness of this round. And that isn't even getting into an over penetration discussion.

Would that be LAX Ammo ?

Odd that one of the states with the most restrictive handgun/longgun ownership policies, would be benefiting from the sale of ammo that fits most of the weapons they banned !

They now make Xtreme Penetrator (what’s being tested in the video posted) and Xtreme Defender. Defender specifically created to address over penetration in 9mm and above. Youtube has comparison videos.

I carry Xtreme Penetrator in the 42. It doesn’t over penetrate in .380 like it does in 9mm and performs closest to the 9mm SD rounds of the .380 options on the market.

For 9mm, I’m happy with HST and personally, don’t see a reason to use anything else.

I picked up 5 boxes of this stuff called Maxx Tech, and it is about the worse ammo I have ever bought. It's nickle plated steel cased, and when I looked at it, I thought it looked okay, but not. The first squib I have had in years came from this stuff the other day, and I had to sort through the ammo for bullet set back. I had at least 5 rounds per box, that the bullet had been pushed back to where it had to have been pressed into the powder.

Bad stuff I got from this Maxx Tech, so stay away from it.

It was as if the Maxx Tech had absolutely no kind of crimp on the cases at all, and you could use your thumb and push the bullets, deeper into the cases. Even the steel cased Tula I have on hand, does not do that.
