FMJ or Plated bullets for G23?

I've been reloading with 180gr. FMJ for my G23. Seeing as how they're getting harder and harder to come by, I was wondering if I should try out plated bullets, such as Berry's or Rainier. Has anyone reloaded plated bullets, specifically for the G23? What are the major differences between the two? I'd only be using them for plinking. Not sure what type of bullet is preferred in the G23 barrel other than FMJ, like I said I've only ever reloaded/shot those. Does anyone have any experience with them? Are plated powder loads typically higher or lower than FMJ loads?

I've used thousands of Berrys 9mm, .38 special and .45 ACP plated bullets. They have always performed well for target or range use for me.

I would not hesitate to use them.

I'm about to load my first batch of Rainier 200 gr. RN .45 ACP. I mainly bought these because they were available. As I'm a reloading noob, I didn't do a lot of research before I bought, and load data for them is very sketchy. Rainier publishes no load data other than they recommend to use lead data for their bullets. They do not offer an OAL. I've derived most of my reliable data from my reloading manual and the Hodgon website (for W231). I've scoured a lot of forums for answers and I've seen a lot of people say that lower charges cause some Glocks to not cycle. Minimum charge for 231 is 4.4 and Max is 5.6. I'm going to start at 4.8, but I'm expecting good results upwards of 5.0. Most people also seem to say an OAL of 1.250 works well in Glocks and 1911's.

I realize .45 info doesn't do you much good with a G23, but I just wanted to illustrate that a lot of research comes into play for Rainier's.

NYY23 you can call Ranier themselves for info but the general guideline is to use lead data , this is a starter point. You gave the ability to work up from there. I use titegroup 4.8 grains behind 230 grain ranier at 1.24 and works very good and very accurate!

Plated should give you all the performance you need for plinking. I use them for USPSA in .45 acp, and they work very well. You might also look here....X-Treme Bullets the finest hard-cast bullets and plated bullets money can buy

I shot my first Berry's .45ACP reloads yesterday-230gr RN using 5.5gr Winchester 231. I shot these out of my Glock 36. As these were my first .45ACP reloads using Berry's I only loaded 40 rounds. They performed flawlessly. No failures of any type, except maybe for my accuracy. I plan on staying with them for good range ammo. The price certainly is right. I think your Glock will love them.

Thanks guys. Would plated loads be more or less than jacketed loads?

Plated bullets should be loaded to target velocities.... The plating is not as durable as jacketed, so load them down a little.... Like, 1/2 way between LRN and FMJ.
