I use a brass jag. Does a much better job than an eyelet, IMHO

combination of some old toothbrushes (dry) to clean inside the frame and face of the breech. then get out the otis cleaning kit, run a patch with solvent a couple of times, followed by a brass brush, followed by another patch with solvent and a nylon brush, then some ballistol for good measure, and lastly a dry patch to sparkly clean goodness

For lubricating anything that slides, I use Mil-Comm TW25B. For lubricating everything else, I use M-Pro7 LPX Gun Oil.

1.) Field strip after shooting. Slide, frame, barrel, recoil spring & guide rod, magazines.

2.) Nylon brush the barrel with Hoppes #9, then a dry patch. Complete wash of everything in clean Kerosene with a stiff bristled paint brush.

3.) Blow dry everything completely dry with compressed air.

4.) Re lubricate everything with Mobil 1, and wipe down with an oily cloth of all metal parts.

5.) Assemble weapon and insert magazine................Done. 10 minutes tops and the weapon is cleaner than when I took it out of the box.
I don't need my AR-15 "Assault Rifle" any more than Rosa Parks needed to sit in the front of the bus.

About every 1,000 rounds I completely disassembly slide, frame and trigger. Wipe down and scrub with a nylon brush. Use hopps when needed. Run a few patches with solvent down the barrel. Then break out the drill with a brass brush and run it through the barrel. After that I run a few more patches with solvent, then a few dry patches. Heat up all metal parts and coat lightly with frog lube. Let set for an hour, wipe down with a micro fiber cloth, run a boar snake through the barrel a few times, reassemble. Looks cleaner then when I bought it new.

In between that, wipe down with micro fiber cloth, few passes down the barrel with a brass brush and boar snake.

    I clean after shooting.

1 - wet patch with froglube through the bore 3-4 passes
2 - Brass bore brush through the barrel 6 passes
3 - run the patch wetted in step 1 though the bore 2-3 passes
4 - remove wet patch from eyelet, wipe down weapon (inside of slide, barrel, inside of frame)
5 - nylon brush of breech face, inside of slide (rail grooves)
6 - wipe weapon dry with cotton rag.
7 - clean dry patch through bore - 2 passes
8 - froglube paste lightly on inside of slide, outside of barrel and lube points on frame.
    9 - reassemble

Done - takes me about 10 minutes per gun and I typically use 4-6 patches.

My routine would drive most people crazy so I won't even post it. I used to be able to clean a M16 rather quickly but now i'm at 40 mins per pistol. There's Q tips involved and other things. My GF just walks away. Ya, I need help.
