Glock 26 Gen 3 hard to eject mag

I am 65 years old and have a Glock 19 and haven't had any problems with the mag release. I recently bought a Glock 26 Gen 3 and it is terribly hard to eject mags. I also have a nerve disease that limits my feeling in my thumb. What can I do if anything to make it easier?

This is a toughie. I've seen lots of posts concerning a mag's reluctance to "drop free," but have never seen anybody's having a problem with actually pressing the mag release button. I don't think there's a good answer for this one. The mag release spring isn't the type of spring where you could modify it and cause less pressure required to press the mag release. Wish I could help, but I just can't think of anything.

Why don't you just switch the mag release and use your index finger to eject mag

You might try using an extended magazine catch. Glock makes a part (SP 01981) that is just longer, it protrudes from the frame farther (GLOCK Factory Extended Mag Catch For 9mm, 40S&W, 357SIG-www.glockmeister.com). I'm not sure this will help much.

Glockmeister makes a magazine catch with a button that increases the surface area that you contact with your thumb, that might also help (Glockmeister Extended Mag Catch For Most 9/40/357/45 GAPs-www.glockmeister.com). I think this would work for you.

Long ago I started using my index finger to release magazines, but this was because I'm left-handed and got tired of moving magazine catches to the other side of the pistol. I found that using my trigger finger to release magazines is an advantage because (a) my trigger finger is longer than my thumb, so I can reach the magazine catch without shifting my grip, and (b) if my trigger finger is on the magazine catch, it is NOT on the trigger when I am changing magazines (kind of a big deal in USPSA matches).

WalterGA is right, there's nothing you can do with the spring, at least nothing that I've ever seen or heard of. It would be nice to be able to get a lower-pressure magazine catch spring, but I don't know how to do that. Thinner material won't work because it fits into a slot in the frame. Maybe the diameter could be shaved down at the top to reduce the spring strength, but I think that's heading down a slippery slope of destroying a lot of springs for the sake of experimentation. Besides, the spring is a pain to remove and replace.

The magazine catch is not reversible on the Gen3 G26.

You need to press it at the part of the release that is closest to the front (barrel) of the pistol. I am sure that is your problem.
