Some people's idea of "maintenance"

I just picked up a Gen2 17. Whoever had owned it (or the dealer that sold it) oiled the gun to death!!! It's oozing oil and every surface including the firing pin channel is covered. BUT . . . that's not the actual problem. The problem is the gun wasn't cleaned before all that oil was dumped on it! I'm pretty sure the gun could have passed a mud test and not been this gunked up. :p:p:p:p

The lesson we've learned today children, is wipe the gun off before dunking in a bucket of oil :D

OK, I'm done ranting, back to cleaning!

Sounds like they didn't want to invest much time in cleaning it, but tried to give it a good chance to shoot for the new owner... Shady...

Congrats on your new Glock... Hope all is good mechanically.

I bought it because it had the old weekend sights on it that I needed to get a Gen1 back to original condition. The gun itself ended up being a massive home run. In addition to the weekend sights it had a complete set of original black parts including the original un-captured recoil guide rod and spring! It ALSO came with two early U-notch mags with no-hole base plates.

For non-collectors that means the parts were more than what I paid for the gun. It also means no one should have been shooting the gun without a lot of parts/springs replacement. I’ve cleaned it and am putting all new parts/springs into it so I can sell it as a shooter. The original parts will go into a gun that’s meant only for collecting or sold to someone who will put into a gun meant only for collecting.

As a collector I’m glad guns with original parts still exist but as an armorer, it’s pretty scary to think someone could be shooting them. I’ve gotten police trade-ins that have never been upgraded or cleaned as well.

I need to check my parts box, I am pretty sure I still have the black parts I took out of Frank when I upgraded him.

Also may have the mag and sights.

Trade time ! ! !

The guy who listed this group of random glock plastic sights on eBay probably had no idea what he had (3 weekend sights, although 2 need minor repair). It would not shock me if the current bid of $270 doubles but I'm not a player at these prices.

I would expect someone has told the seller what's going on at this point but if not he's gotta be thinking it's some kind of joke.

58Sniper got them.

When I was picking up this gun the weekend sights just fell off, I nearly cried. Luckily it was an easy fix. I ended up scoring well on that gun but I think I may have just been scammed on an Armslist deal. We’ll see in the next couple of days.

I'll try to get some pictures done this weekend of both side by side and create a separate thread under the Collectible forum about the differences.

In the meantime, here's a side shot of my AFxxx with weekend sights - note how far off the back of the pistol the sight extends. It also only adjusts vertically, there's no horizontal adjustment. It also looks like the standard Glock polymer sight with a long flat extension added to it - that's basically what it is and all of those things add up to a very fragile sight that broke easily.

Here's an image taken from the top and rear taken of a gun that was being auctioned on gunbroker.
