Had a problem with my g31 today.....

First off,let me tell you that the problem that occured today was probably my fault, not the gun's.I completly dissasembled my 31 and 17 the other day for cleaning and 3.5# connectors.I have taken them down many times before and feel comfortable on my ability to do so.So, first I put 100 or so flawless rounds thru the 17....no problems at all.Shot great. Then I loaded the 31 up and after the 1st round the slide locked back, tried again, same thing. So I field stripped it and did a visual inspection, everything looked fine.I then switched ammo thinking my wally world remingtons were the problem. The speer gold dots continued to do the same thing.I got pissed off and just put it up after that.I have put tons of rounds thru this pistol with no problems,Unfortunetly I have no idea what I did wrong or for that matter, what the problem even is.I am no gunsmith.Just a simple american who loves guns and enjoys doing maintenance and upgrades themselves. Any advice would be much appreciated!

The spring for the Slide Stop Lever could be installed incorrectly.

Make sure the Slide Stop Lever spring is under the Locking Block Pin. The spring needs to press down on the Slide Stop Lever... If the spring is installed over the Locking Block Pin, it will pull up and lock the slide after every shot.

Remember to put the three pins back in the following order... Locking Block Pin... Trigger Housing Pin... then position the Slide Stop Lever with the spring under the Locking Block Pin... wiggle the Slide Stop Lever while you push the Trigger Pin in... You should hear a "snap" when the Slide Stop Lever spring slips into the slot in the Trigger Pin.

...also... It's best to install the three pins from right hand side of the gun to the left side... Makes it easier to get some of the pins in...

Hope that helps... If not... post back and we'll see if we can help.

I set it feild stripped next to my 17 field stripped and found the problem. Its exactly what you said it was.I know now that I installed the pins in the wrong order on the 31 and the slide stop spring was on top of the pin not under it.I made sure to install in the order you posted above and now its back working perfect.I made a stupid mistake.Good thing the problem happened during recreational shooting and not a life and death situation!! Thank you for the use of your knowledge jb!! Without you chiming in I probably would have ordered a slide stop spring thinking I damaged it during the re-install.If no one has told you today, please let me be the first to say......YOUR THE MAN!!!!

    Thanks...

There are lots of smart people here that could have helped... I just happened to see it first...

Glad you got everything figured out and are good to go... Always good to take a few shots with your carry gun after you swap out parts...
