I bought my first 1911 in 9mm, so I could decide if I enjoyed the style before I went in deep on ammo cost.....needless to say....1911 are my true love now. Nothing against Glocks.....great guns.

Since you've already got a couple of Glocks, getting another one isn't going to broaden your experience. If I were in your position, I'd get a 1911, for a few reasons. They're pretty, they're heavy, they carry a lot of history, and they are well known and understood. I shoot in USPSA, I've always wanted to try the Single Stack division, and the 1911's Single Action Only mechanism ( or whatever you would call it ) means you'd have a consistent trigger pull from shot to shot. Then there's the possibility to get a 1911 with a truly excellent trigger, and to spend a whole lot more money than you ever planned, if you're not careful.

My 1911 of choice is a Springfield Armory "Trophy Match", or maybe a "Loaded" model. I'm a lefty, so I need the ambidextrous safety. I shoot with a couple of guys who use Springfields and they swear by them, the prices are "moderate", and they're available locally in the sporting goods discount houses.

I'd go with the 1911. That's going to be my next purchase. I love Glock but 1911's are just classic and their design is flawless.

I have a Sig Sauer 1911XO. I carried it for a year untill just two days ago. I got sick of lugging that 3lb pistol everywhare. So I bought a Glock 23 and I love how light it is. Go with the Glock dude, you'll be totally happy. Carrying a 1911 is cool also, but you'll soon learn why it's not the best carrying pistol in the world.

Wow, thought I was on a 1911 forum there for a minute. Just kidding fellas, just kidding. On a more serious note I have another vote for the 1911. For the same reasons already stated.

This, but get the a G20SF first. Before I got my G20 I could of given a damn about a Glock I just wanted a good 10mm without breaking the bank. Glocks are ugly, and foreign, which are 2 things I don't care for. Still a Glock 20 is so damn good that it has become my favorite gun which surprises the hell out of me. My Colt Combat Elite is a great gun, and it's sexy, and it's a Colt, and I love it,(it's very accurate and reliable) but it's honestly not as good as my G20SF especially for the value.

16 rounds of 10mm ammo is the shit and much better than 9 rounds of .45ACP. In fact the main reason I like my G20 more than my Colt CE is because 10mm is just much better than .45ACP. You want to shoot some hot/fun to shoot ammo buy a LWD 9x25 Dillon conversion barrel. That is some bad stuff right there. It's to 10mm what .357Sig is to .40S&W.

Look at this my Colt looks like freakin Halle Berry where my Glock looks like a dingle berry or something, but I'd still much rather have my Glock.

Still I do think that all Americans who are handgun fans do need a 1911, but they also need to get on the 10mm bandwagon so we can make this awesome round into a mainstream cartridge.

You make a compelling argument for the Glock 20. If I had read this post before this past Thursday I might be shooting a G20 instead of my new Springfield Range Officer. (Pics to follow) I just burnt my entire gun savings, so it won't be anytime soon, but I believe the G20 is the next gun on the list.

    True.

Maybe wait for a Gen4 G20 and see what it's about. Hopefully better than the Gen4 9's.

I'm sure you'll love the Springer. They make great 1911's, and are fantastic guns to shoot.
