New Trijicon RMR Dual-Illuminitaed sight: First Impressions

Well I had a nice refund coming so I treated myself to a new setup for my Gen4 G17 receiver. One Source Tactical was selling milled slides with back up iron sights (BUIS). Bought one of the slides along with a new RMR-04 Dual-Illuminated Sight. So far, it's been great. A couple of notes:

-- I had the option to buy a recoil assembly and barrel, but I opted to just throw those from my other slide into the current setup.
-- Mounting the RMR to the milled slide was easy with the 2 screws supplied by OST; I understand the slide is CNC milled and it feels pretty precise. A touch of blue Loctite and I was good to go.
-- Iron suppressor sights were zeroed fine at 15 yards. I had to make a couple of windage/elevation clicks to make the dot co-witness with the top of the front sight.
-- Even just starting the learning curve with the RMR, I'm loving them. I went to an indoor GSSF match after practictcing some draws from a holster and making sure my point of aim was enough to allow the dot to appear in the lens without having to search. Even if my alignment was off and I didn't see the dot, my eyes automatically used the irons to line up, and while that happened voila the dot comes into view.
-- The dot isn't as necessary at single-digit yard ranges, but really works great at 15+ yards. For this match we only went to 15 yards but I scored 495/500 with my G34 Sevigny-sight setup, and a 498/500 with the RMR. 1 shot went high at 12 o'clock. Didn't wait long enough for the dot to settle down. That was with 20 minutes of dry fire practice...
-- While the fiber optic and tritium is not as bright as a LED dot, it still seems bright enough to work for me. There's definitely washout when aiming from a dark room to a lighted area, but my eyes automatically go to the BUIS.

    That's a sweet set up!

I wanted to do that to my 34 but I wasn't too sure about having the slide milled.

What did the slide cost if you don't mind me asking?

Just checked out their sight...they don't show a RMR ready Gen4 34 slide.

But on a more positive note, they only about an hour drive from me. I may have to go check them out.

I've got an OST "AquaTerra" RMR slide on one of my 19s (also have an M&P 9 w/RMR and another 19 slide "in progress"), and my experience has been exactly as you described. I'm really digging it. A lot.

I use the green dot, dual illuminated RMRs (RM05G) on mine. They wash out much less than the amber dots.

I didn't want to crap in and/or hijack the OP's thread, but go check the stickied Glock picture thread.

nice pics and welcome to the forum BB. Feel free to post them here too. Most RMR threads are about LEDs so it'll be great to see a collection. I'll get some sight pics posted.

Ryno-- the slide was about $400 but it included the milling, sights and internals. I'm happy with it. No quite sure how One Source Tactical gets OEM slides but it seems to function well. I've only used competiton loads. have to try some defensive loads sometime.
