    It's because the metal is so hard. If it were softer, if would not crack. But would not have the durability when assembled.


    @OP.....how much did they charge you if you don't mind me asking?

    Glock replaced 2 of my slides at no charge. The first one came with all the small parts complete, less the barrel, the 2nd one was just a bare slide.

    I could repair it.. That piece that is bent out.. Needs to be broken off. Then steel welded onto it as a buildup.. Then shaped and finished. When done you could never tell it was repaired.. But.. That repair would be half the cost of a new slide, then you have to recoat the rebuilt slide as well.. A new slide is cheaper.. By far..
