It's worth repeating: a RUBBER hammer.

Another thing to check is the slide rails on the frame. Micro-cracks can cause extra flexing during use and allow the slide to move too far back. Of all the Glock models, those in .40 S&W seem most effected by micro-cracks in the rails, especially on older guns that have not had the recoil spring assembly changed at the recommended (2500-3000 rds) interval. It's that sharp/snappy recoil of the .40.

    SFguard,

My Glock Model 19 just locked up like this after reassembling it. (Barrel tilted up at an angle and slide is not far enough back for the slide lock to engage). If it is the recoil spring assembly being out of place can you tell me how you would fix it?? Thanks.

Thanks! I know this is an old thread but is the only reference on-line I have found to the problem I'm having with my Glock. I just joined Glock.Pro so did not know whether SFguard was still active or not. However, I still hope I might get someone to respond and help me out on this. Thanks again for responding!

My official answer would be to take it to a Glock armorer.

You probably slid the slide over the front rails...

Make sure it's unloaded... Then... You should be able to take a small rubber hammer and tap it off... Don't tap on the rear sight... If you pushed it on by hand, you should be able to remove it by tapping on it... Take it to an armorer if you don't feel safe doing that.

Glock 22 .40 Slide is stuck!!!

Is the guide rod from the recoil spring sticking out of the front of the slide?

From your description it sounds like your slide is not as far to the rear as the original post. If that’s the case and you can get ahold of the rod. Pull it towards you hard and twist it about a 1/4 turn and let it snap back. Keep repeating until the slide will move correctly again.

If the recoil spring slipped during reassembly, this will eventually move it back to where it belongs.

If your slide is farther towards the rear like the pictures in this post it’s likely a different problem.

Hey Sepp, If you can see the striker lug then, here, take a look at THIS: (Start at the 0:54 second mark.)

    Thanks for the replies!!
I just got the slide un-stuck by hitting the rear of the slide with a leather hammer. I was a little hesitant to do this but it worked!
    Thanks again!
