No Gaz, I am not one for building from scratch, although I can break mine down to the last spring ....
Never dropped mine or had a damaged slide, but it happens and this is a very cost effective way to fix an oopsie ....

Midway had a sale on them a couple months ago in addition to the regular slides they had the Swenson slides cut for the red dot sights. Got one for my G19. Put it together and it fit up to the frame ok no issues. Put a Vortex Venom red dot on it and have been to the range with it probably 6 times and it has worked ok no problems. I like it because it has the seriations on the front of the slide as well as the back of the slide.
