    Ruger SR22 problem

I know a few members have this pistol and I wanted to ask if anyone else has or had this certain problem.
Took my daughter to the range yesterday with the .22 pistol. I was shooting in the lane next to her so I could help if needed and keep an eye on her.
She loaded up the magazine with 8 rounds and proceeded to shoot. First shot, BANG. Second shot, hammer fell and nothing. I took the magazine out and pulled the slide back. The pistol did not cycle the next round. First off I was thinking grip. When she first started shooting, she didn't have a proper grip and this happened. I put the magaine back in, racked the slide and took my stance. First shot good, second shot nothing. Again.
I took the pistol apart right there and looked to see if I saw something blatantly wrong. Lubrication, check. Nothing bent or broken, check. Hmmmm.
I had a friend a few lanes down shooting his .22 pistol and he gave me a few 40 grain rounds. Loaded up and shot them. No problems at all. Every round cycled perfectly.
I was using 36 grain Winchester SuperX. I specifically keep these rounds to use in the pistol as I have shot them before. The cheaper. 22 rounds I keep for her rifle.
Has anyone had these problems? The pistol doesn't jam, it just doesn't cycle the next round. Any suggestions?

If it's not cycling the next round, there's (a) not enough recoil generated from the ammo, or (b) too much friction in the slide to allow it to operate.

Since you've cleaned and checked the gun, my guess is that the ammo is just too light to operate the pistol reliably in its current condition.

If you can make the ammo work, but your daughter can't, you know where the problem lies. If the gun has worked reliably previously with this ammo, then it's pretty much got to be dirty somewhere. Maybe a rigorous cleaning of the slide with gun spray, making sure that you clean the firing pin area, might help?

I've got this pistol and have never had a single function problem except when I tried to use under-powered ammunition.

I'm thinking an ammunition problem also. It's funny though because it ate the Winchester fine before. I gave it a thorough cleaning yesterday but I found that the inside of the magazine had a build-up in it today when I was looking at it. I stripped the magazine and cleaned it out. I don't know if that contributed to the problem or not but it's one less variable.
May take it out today as it's a beautiful day here.

I bought an SR22 for my wife a couple years ago. The only ammo I can recall that it didn't cycle was Blazer. We have since traded it, but the pistol ran good. I did have some problems with Super X in a 10/22 before, but those were mostly dud primers.

Got out yesterday afternoon and tested the pistol. I brought 36 grain Winchester SuperX and CCI 40 grain. The CCI ran with no problems and I had a few, but not as many, problems with the Winchester.
I noticed a few sharp edges on the Ruger that weren't there when it was new and I dulled them down.
Still haven't come to any conclusion as to why it functioned with Winchester then wouldn't but the CCI worked fine.

We have a SR22 and it has been flawless with somewhere over 1000 rounds, it even functions fine, although slowly, with subsonic ammo (bought by mistake, I would not make a regular diet of it).

How old is the pistol? Ruger had some problems with the SR-22 when they first came out. "Supposedly" the problem has been fixed.

Make sure you installed the recoil spring properly. Made this mistake and it caused problems.

I got it when it first came out. I'm gonna keep it but I may look into getting another .22 pistol in the future.
